New Delhi: The Delhi government has formally constituted the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) and the Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC), appointing new chairpersons and members to both statutory bodies. The move is aimed at strengthening institutional mechanisms for protecting women’s rights and promoting the welfare of minority communities in the national capital.

The appointments were announced as part of the government’s broader efforts to improve access to justice, social welfare, and constitutional safeguards for vulnerable groups.

Lata Gupta Appointed Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson

The government has appointed Lata Gupta as the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women.

The following members have also been nominated to the commission:

• Shyam Bala
• Malti Verma
• Lata Sodhi
• Sanrika Sharma Jha
• Renu Bhalla

The commission is expected to address issues related to women’s rights, gender equality, safety, legal awareness, and policy recommendations concerning women in Delhi.

Delhi Minorities Commission Gets New Leadership

For the Delhi Minorities Commission, Nirmal Jain has been appointed as the Chairperson.

The newly appointed members include:

• Kuldeep Singh
• Mohammad Haroon

The commission is tasked with examining issues affecting minority communities, advising the government on welfare measures, and monitoring the implementation of constitutional and legal protections.

Chief Minister Highlights Government’s Objectives

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the constitution of the two commissions reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening institutional support for citizens.

According to the Chief Minister, the initiative is intended to:

• Improve the welfare of minority communities.
• Safeguard constitutional rights guaranteed to all citizens.

The Delhi Commission for Women functions as a statutory body that examines complaints related to women’s rights, recommends policy reforms, promotes legal awareness, and works with government departments on issues concerning women’s welfare.

Similarly, the Delhi Minorities Commission focuses on protecting the interests of minority communities, reviewing grievances, recommending welfare initiatives, and supporting the effective implementation of constitutional protections.
