‘Delhi Crime’ Season 3 Review: Shefali Shah’s Gravitas and Huma Qureshi’s Charisma Light Up an Underwhelming Season

Delhi Crime returns on Netflix with a gritty third season, staying loyal to its grounded world but struggling to retain the sharp edge that defined its earlier chapters. The new season takes on the disturbing realities of interstate human trafficking, weaving a narrative inspired by the 2012 Baby Falak case.

A Gritty Case That Grows in Scale

Shefali Shah reprises her role as DIG Vartika Chaturvedi, now serving a ‘punishment posting’ in the North East. Her unflinching pursuit of justice begins when a battered infant is admitted to AIIMS, sparking a nationwide investigation. Supported by trusted officers Neeti Singh (Rasika Dugal) and Bhupendra (Rajesh Tailang), Vartika uncovers a sprawling trafficking network that exploits young girls and women.

What starts as a local abandonment case soon reveals a shadow economy where victims are transported in containers and sold under the guise of tradition or sex work.

Huma Qureshi Steals the Show as Badi Didi

The season’s standout is Huma Qureshi, playing the ruthless and unpredictable Meena Chaudhary, popularly known as Badi Didi. Her portrayal of a formidable trafficker is fierce, unsettling, and layered with moral contradiction. While her accent fluctuates at times, her screen presence brings volatility and depth, creating a sharp contrast to Shefali Shah’s restrained authority.

Their dynamic not only drives the season but also adds compelling nuance—both women are shaped by unequal, patriarchal systems, navigating survival on opposite sides of the law.

Strong Performances, Thoughtful Craft

Director Tanuj Chopra maintains the franchise’s signature realism. The season avoids gratuitous violence but heightens tension through:

  • immersive sound design
  • intimate, grey-toned cinematography
  • atmospheric production design

Supporting actors Sayani Gupta, Mita Vashisht, and newcomer Yukti Thalreja leave strong impressions, adding authenticity to the world.

But Predictability Dulls the Impact

Despite its strengths, Delhi Crime Season 3 falters in writing. The emotional beats, especially Vartika’s responses, feel increasingly familiar. Coincidences surface more often, reducing the organic tension that earlier seasons excelled at.

Additionally, with human trafficking explored widely in recent OTT content, the narrative occasionally feels generic and less surprising. The near-ideal portrayal of the police force also narrows the space for internal critique—a hallmark of Season 1.

A Short, Watchable Season — But Not a Standout

At six episodes, the season is tightly paced and never overstays its welcome. While not as gripping or emotionally piercing as previous seasons, it still offers enough intensity, strong performances, and moral complexity to keep viewers engaged.

Final Verdict:
An underwhelming yet watchable season elevated by Shefali Shah’s quiet strength and Huma Qureshi’s magnetic ferocity.

Now streaming on Netflix.
