Brahmastra 2: Deepika Padukone reportedly in talks to return as Amrita alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt

Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra 2 is expected to expand the mythology introduced in the first film, and Deepika Padukone could have a more substantial role in the upcoming sequel. According to a report by Pinkvilla, the actor is in discussions to play Amrita, the character briefly seen in Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva.

The sequel is currently in the scripting and pre-production phase, with the makers working on expanding the story of the Astraverse. While Deepika’s involvement has generated considerable interest, her casting has not yet been officially announced.

Deepika Padukone could have a larger role in Brahmastra 2

Deepika made a brief appearance as Amrita, Shiva’s mother, in the first Brahmastra. Her character was shown wielding the Jal Astra, but the film did not explore her story in depth.

The sequel is expected to delve further into the mythology and characters surrounding Shiva, Dev and the Astras. If Deepika joins the project in the reported capacity, Amrita could become a significantly more important part of the narrative.

The casting, however, remains subject to discussions around the film’s schedule and Deepika’s availability.

Ranbir Kapoor set to return as Shiva and Dev

Ranbir Kapoor will reprise his role as Shiva in Brahmastra 2. The sequel is also expected to explore the character of Dev, whose identity and connection to Shiva formed one of the biggest mysteries established in the first film.

Reports suggest Ranbir could portray both Shiva and Dev, giving him a dual role in the sequel.

The actor is currently committed to Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana Part 2. He is reportedly expected to complete that project around January 2027 before moving towards Brahmastra 2 after a period of preparation.

If the reported timeline holds, Ayan Mukerji’s sequel could begin production around April 2027.

Alia Bhatt will reprise Isha

Alia Bhatt is also expected to return as Isha, Shiva’s partner and one of the central characters from the first film.

The relationship between Shiva and Isha formed an important emotional thread in Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva. Their story is expected to continue as the sequel moves deeper into the mythology of the Astraverse.

The film’s expanded storyline is likely to build on the unanswered questions surrounding Dev and the origins and powers of the Astras.

What happened to Deepika’s Amrita in Brahmastra?

Deepika’s appearance in the first film was brief but significant. She was seen as Amrita, Shiva’s mother, and was associated with the Jal Astra.

The character was part of the film’s larger mythology and was shown in sequences connected to Shiva’s past. Her appearance became particularly important because it hinted at a much larger history behind the Astraverse.

A more prominent role for Amrita in the sequel could therefore allow the franchise to explore previously unexplored portions of its mythology.

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika appeared in the first film

The first Brahmastra also featured a cameo by Shah Rukh Khan, who played scientist Mohan Bhargav and was associated with the Vanar Astra.

Deepika’s appearance, meanwhile, was not developed into a full-fledged storyline in the 2022 film.

With Brahmastra 2 expected to widen the franchise’s mythology, returning characters could have greater narrative significance.

Brahmastra 2 to expand the Astraverse

Released in 2022, Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva introduced audiences to Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy universe built around ancient Astras and their supernatural powers.

The film starred Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, with Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna in important parts. It concluded by setting up the mystery of Dev, creating the foundation for the sequel.

The second instalment is expected to take the franchise into a larger chapter of its mythology, combining elements of Indian mythology with Ayan Mukerji’s contemporary fantasy world.

For now, Deepika Padukone’s return as Amrita remains unconfirmed. If the reported discussions materialise, however, her character could become one of the key links between the first film and the next chapter of the Astraverse.
