Mukherjee was a prominent face of Bengali cinema during the 1970s and 1980s and also appeared in several Hindi films during her career. Her death was mourned by the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), which paid tribute to the actress in a post on X on September 21, 2026.

AICWA pays tribute to Mithu Mukherjee

The AICWA described Mukherjee as a celebrated Bengali and Hindi film actress whose career began with Shesh Parba in 1971.

In its tribute, the association recalled her contribution to Indian cinema and highlighted several of the films in which she appeared.

The statement said her death had left the Bengali film industry in mourning and described her as an important part of the film fraternity.

The AICWA also remembered her contribution to Bengali cinema and the wider Indian film industry, saying that her performances would continue to be remembered by audiences.

Mithu Mukherjee’s Bengali film career

Mukherjee made her cinematic debut with Shesh Parba in 1971 and went on to establish herself as a familiar face in Bengali cinema.

Her filmography included titles such as Marjina Abdulla, Nishi Kanya, Mouchak, Swayamsiddha, Hotel Snow Fox, Bhagyachakra, Sandhi, Father and Ashrita.

Her work during the 1970s and 1980s made her part of an important period in Bengali cinema, and she continued appearing in films until the early 1990s.

She also worked in Hindi films

Although best known for her Bengali film career, Mukherjee also appeared in Hindi-language productions.

Her Hindi film credits included Khaan Dost, Safed Jhooth, Dillagi and Do Ladke Dono Kadke.

Mithu Mukherjee’s final film was Ashrita

Mukherjee’s last credited film appearance was in the Bengali film Ashrita, released in 1990.
