Social Media Influencers: The rapid spread of content on social media has created new opportunities for influencers to build large audiences, but it has also exposed public figures to serious privacy and reputational risks.
Over the past few years, several Indian influencers and internet personalities have faced controversies involving alleged private videos that circulated online. In several cases, the people identified in connection with the footage disputed its authenticity or said that the material had been manipulated, misrepresented or circulated without consent.
The controversy surrounding Gungun Gupta is therefore part of a much larger conversation about online privacy, misinformation and the responsibilities of social-media users.
Here are five influencers who have previously faced similar controversies.

Nisha Guragain became widely known through short-form videos and TikTok and subsequently built a substantial following on other social-media platforms.
At one point, an alleged private video circulated online with claims that the person shown was Nisha. The influencer disputed the claims surrounding the footage and the controversy generated significant discussion across social media.
The incident demonstrated how quickly an unverified video can become associated with a public figure once their name is attached to it.

4. Anjali Arora
Anjali Arora, who gained widespread recognition after appearing on Kangana Ranaut’s reality show Lock Upp, faced a major online controversy in 2022 after an alleged intimate video circulated using her name.
Arora publicly denied that she was the person shown in the circulated footage and described the material as fake or morphed.
The controversy also resulted in significant online trolling. Arora later spoke about the emotional and professional impact the episode had on her and took steps through the authorities regarding the circulation of the material.
Her case highlighted the serious consequences that manipulated or falsely attributed content can have on an individual’s career and mental well-being.

5. Gungun Gupta
Social-media influencer Gungun Gupta has also faced online controversy involving alleged private footage.
The material circulated widely across social-media platforms and led to intense speculation about the identity of the person shown.
However, viral claims should not be treated as confirmation of the identity of anyone appearing in disputed footage. The authenticity, source and context of such material need to be independently established before they can responsibly be presented as facts.

Why Do Private Videos Spread So Quickly?
Social-media platforms allow content to be copied and redistributed almost instantly. A post uploaded by one account can reach thousands of users through reposts, private groups and messaging applications within a short period.
The problem becomes even more complicated when manipulated images or AI-generated videos are involved.
A person’s photograph can potentially be combined with unrelated footage or digitally altered material, creating misleading content that appears convincing to viewers who encounter it without context.
What Should You Do If You Encounter Such Content?
Users should avoid downloading, forwarding or reposting alleged private material.
If a post appears to violate someone’s privacy, users can instead report it through the platform’s reporting system. Where there is suspected cybercrime, harassment or unauthorized distribution of private material, the affected person can also approach the appropriate cybercrime or law-enforcement authorities.
Most importantly, a high view count does not make a claim authentic.
Viral Does Not Mean Verified
The cases involving Nisha Guragain, the Kullhad Pizza couple, Karmita Kaur, Anjali Arora and Gungun Gupta demonstrate a recurring problem in the social-media ecosystem: speed often comes before verification.
Once a person’s name becomes attached to controversial material, correcting the record can be considerably more difficult than spreading the original allegation.
