India added to its medal haul on Day 5 of the Asian Games 2026 as athletes from wushu, rowing and shooting contributed to a busy day of competition.

The day began with a podium finish for Naorem Roshibina Devi, who claimed the silver medal in the women’s 60kg wushu category after losing her final against China’s Xiaoyu Zhang. The result gives Roshibina her third successive Asian Games medal.

India also celebrated a bronze medal in rowing, with Satnam Singh and Salman Khan finishing third in the men’s double sculls final.

Roshibina Devi finished Day 5 with a silver medal in the women’s 60kg wushu competition.

The Indian faced China’s Xiaoyu Zhang in the final but could not secure the gold medal. Despite the defeat, the silver continues Roshibina’s record of reaching the podium at three consecutive Asian Games.

Her latest medal adds another significant result to India’s wushu campaign at the 2026 Games.

India also had a difficult result in the women’s four final, where Gurbani Kaur, Aleena Anto, Tendenthoi Haobijam and Poonam finished at the bottom of the field.

Naruka and Dhaliwal win mixed team skeet bronze

Shooting produced another Indian medal through the mixed team skeet event.

Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal won bronze, adding another medal to India’s Day 5 tally.

The result contrasted with India’s performance in the men’s 10m air pistol team event. Kamaljeet, Kedarling Balakrishna and Aakash Bhardwaj finished fourth with a combined score of 1727. None of the three Indian shooters progressed to the individual final.

Anahat Singh makes winning start in squash

India’s young squash player Anahat Singh began her Asian Games campaign with a strong victory.

Anahat defeated Malaysia’s Au Yeong Wai Lynn to advance to the women’s singles quarter-finals.

India also featured in the mixed doubles competition. Joshana Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar defeated Indian teammates Suraj Chand and Shameena Riaz 2-0 in the round of 16.

India through to mixed 4x400m relay final

Athletics brought another positive development for the Indian contingent.

India qualified for the mixed 4x400m relay final after finishing second in Heat 2.

The heptathlon also remained in progress, with Indian competitors Anamika Aneesh and Pooja continuing their campaigns. After the high jump, Anamika stood sixth with 1,771 points, while Pooja was ninth with 1,761 points.

Following the 100m hurdles, Pooja had been eighth and Anamika tenth in the standings.

India’s women’s doubles pair Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade moved through the Round of 32 after defeating Iran’s Setayash Iloukhani and Mashid Ashtari.

Another Indian pair, Sreeja Akula and Syndrela Das, also began their women’s doubles campaign with a victory. They defeated Mongolia’s Bolor-Erdene Batmunkh and Burenjargal Sanjaa to progress.

In men’s singles, Manush Shah opened his campaign with a 4-0 win over Malaysia’s Wong Qi Shen.

Canoe sprint sees mixed results for India

India had several competitors in action in canoe sprint.

Megha Pradeep finished fourth in the women’s canoe single 200m semi-final and did not qualify for the final.

In the women’s kayak double 500m semi-final, Soniya Devi and Parvathy Geetha finished last and were eliminated.

The Indian men’s kayak four team of Naocha Laitonjam, Varinder Singh, Oinam Arun Singh and Harshawardhan Shaktawat finished sixth in the 500m final A.

In the men’s canoe double 500m final, Raju Rawat and Gyaneshwor Singh Philem finished ninth.

Swimming: Beniston misses qualification

India’s Benedicton Beniston competed in the men’s 50m butterfly heats.

He finished fifth in his heat and placed 12th overall, ending his bid to progress from the heats.

India’s Day 5 medal picture

Day 5 therefore brought a combination of podium finishes and near misses for India.

Roshibina Devi’s silver in wushu, Satnam Singh and Salman Khan’s rowing bronze and the mixed team skeet bronze from Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal provided the day’s medal highlights.

At the same time, fourth-place finishes in rowing and shooting showed how narrow the margins can be at the Asian Games.

With competition continuing across multiple disciplines, India’s athletes remain involved in events ranging from athletics and squash to shooting, table tennis and canoe sprint.
