Anupama Gowda Quits Anchoring After Eight Years, Says Acting Will Now Be Her Priority

Kannada actor and television host Anupama Gowda has announced that she is stepping away from anchoring after eight years, choosing to focus more seriously on acting.

In a video shared on her YouTube channel, Anupama explained that the decision was driven by a desire to reconnect with her identity as an artist. She said she had not been enjoying anchoring in recent months and felt it was time to move towards a different phase of her career.

“I need to satisfy the artist within me. That is the reason behind this decision,” Anupama said, making it clear that she is not leaving the entertainment industry or giving up acting.

Anupama Gowda Says She Had Been Considering the Decision for a Year

Anupama revealed that leaving anchoring was not a sudden decision.

She had reportedly been thinking about stepping away from hosting since last year but continued because of family responsibilities and other commitments. At the beginning of this year, however, she decided that she wanted to close that chapter of her career.

“I know you will miss my anchoring even now. I know that, and I am sorry for that. This is how I am ending my journey as an anchor. There are many paths ahead. Life is beautiful,” she said.

Her announcement marks the end of a career phase that made her a familiar face among Kannada television audiences.

Why Did Anupama Gowda Quit Anchoring?

Explaining her decision, Anupama said she believes people should be able to enjoy and emotionally connect with the work they do.

“Whatever work we do, we should enjoy it, live it and feel it. But for the past few months, I wasn’t enjoying it,” she said.

She also recalled that she initially identified herself primarily as an artist rather than an anchor. Although viewers gradually accepted and appreciated her as a television host, she eventually began questioning whether she was still giving anchoring the level of commitment she believed her audience deserved.

That realisation ultimately contributed to her decision to move on.

An Eight-Year Journey on Kannada Television

Anupama began her anchoring career in 2018, making her first appearance as a host on June 22 of that year.

Although she had expected to enter the field earlier, her television hosting journey eventually began two years later than initially planned.

Over the following eight years, anchoring became a major part of her professional identity. She hosted multiple Kannada television programmes and built a strong connection with viewers.

Her decision to leave therefore represents more than a career change. It brings an end to a chapter that significantly shaped her public image.

Anupama Gowda Recalls a Painful Period During Kannada Kogile

Anupama has previously spoken about one of the most emotionally difficult periods of her anchoring career while working on Kannada Kogile.

Her father was critically ill and hospitalised at the time, but she continued appearing on stage because of her professional commitments.

“My father was in a serious condition in the hospital when I was hosting Kannada Kogile. Even then, I had to be on stage. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t finish the show early. It was my job,” she recalled.

Her father died about a week later. Anupama said she returned to the stage just three days after his death, describing the experience as something she would never forget.

The memory offers an insight into the personal challenges that sometimes remained behind her television appearances during her years as an anchor.

Acting Takes Priority for Anupama Gowda

While Anupama is saying goodbye to anchoring, she is not walking away from acting.

Instead, she wants to devote more time and energy to acting opportunities. She has indicated that even receiving one acting project a year would make her happy if it allowed her to express herself creatively and continue developing as an artist.

Her decision suggests that the next phase of her career will be less about the frequency of television appearances and more about the quality and creative value of the work she chooses.

For Anupama, leaving anchoring is therefore not an exit from entertainment. It is a deliberate shift in priorities.
