Anasuya Bharadwaj Hits Back at Age-Shaming Trolls After Criticising Sivaji

Television personality and actor Anasuya Bharadwaj has delivered a powerful response to online trolls after facing intense backlash for criticising Telugu actor Sivaji’s recent comments urging actresses to dress “modestly” following public incidents involving Nidhhi Agerwal and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

Anasuya, along with singer Chinmayi Sripada, had condemned Sivaji’s remarks, calling them deeply problematic and misogynistic. What followed was a wave of online abuse — much of it targeting Anasuya’s age.

“They Use Age to Diminish Women Who Speak Up”

Taking to social media, Anasuya addressed the trolling directly, stating that she was being targeted simply for taking a stand.

“Some men… and even some women… are trying to diminish me using my age. This mindset targets progressive women. It comes from fear — fear of losing control over women and protecting fragile patriarchal pride.”

She added that society does not have to carry forward outdated beliefs:

“We don’t have to inherit the thinking of previous generations. We can choose change. We can protect our dignity and our freedom. Our value comes from our choices — nothing else.”

Calling Out the Double Standards

In a follow-up post, Anasuya highlighted the hypocrisy in how she was addressed online.

“They call me ‘aunty’ but they call him ‘garu.’ I’m 40. He must be around 54. We both maintain our fitness and appearance for our profession — not for personal validation. But somehow only women are questioned.”

She noted that regardless of what she says, people “just raise an eyebrow,” exposing the deep-rooted gender bias that still governs public perception of women in the industry.

Urging the media not to glorify such behaviour, Anasuya said she would continue standing firm, unapologetic and resilient. She concluded her statement by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and encouraging a shift toward positivity and mutual respect.
