What begins as an investigation into a crime soon leads into a far more dangerous territory in Ajeya: Special Task Force. The upcoming hoichoi thriller follows ACP Damini Sengupta and her team as they uncover a conspiracy that appears to extend beyond the hospital where the investigation begins and into the corridors of power.

Sohini Sarkar plays ACP Damini, an officer whose pursuit of the truth puts her and her team in conflict with a system determined to keep certain secrets buried.

Directed by Ayan Chakraborti, the series features Indrasish Roy, Rooqma Ray, Mainak Banerjee, Sagnik, Shirin Paul and Sudip Mukherjee alongside Sarkar.

Sohini Sarkar Steps Into the Role of ACP Damini

For Sohini Sarkar, Damini is defined as much by her vulnerability as by her determination.

The actor describes her as relentless but not fearless. Instead, Damini’s strength comes from her refusal to allow fear to determine the decisions she makes.

“Damini is relentless, but what makes her human is that she isn’t fearless — she simply refuses to let fear dictate her choices,” Sohini Sarkar said.

That distinction gives the central police officer a more human dimension. Damini is not presented as someone who is immune to danger; she is someone who continues despite knowing the risks involved.

Sarkar says playing the character was an intense and rewarding experience, particularly because the story examines truth, power and the courage required to challenge a system capable of silencing those who threaten it.

According to director Ayan Chakraborti, the crime at the centre of Ajeya is only the starting point.

Chakraborti says the team wanted to explore what happens when an investigation begins threatening structures that are considerably more powerful than the original crime.

“Ajeya is a crime thriller, but at its core, it is a story about truth versus power,” Chakraborti said.

The director also stresses that Damini and her team are not portrayed as invincible heroes. Their determination comes from making the choice to continue working despite the consequences.
