Sabyasachi Reveals How Closely Guarded the Wedding Was

Rani Mukerji’s wedding attire became one of the most talked-about aspects of the private ceremony. She was the first official Sabyasachi bride, with the designer creating her bridal lehenga for the Italian wedding.

Speaking to Diet Sabya, Sabyasachi recalled the extraordinary measures taken to keep the ceremony away from public attention.

“When she did a secret wedding with 15 people, I think only 13 people were allowed, and Adi was chasing drones,” he said.

The filmmaker’s efforts to prevent photographs of the private celebration from being captured have since become one of the memorable anecdotes surrounding the wedding.

Rani Mukerji Was Sabyasachi’s First Official Bride

Rani’s bridal ensemble also holds a special place in Sabyasachi’s career. The actress became the designer’s first official bride, adding another layer of significance to their long-standing association.

Sabyasachi has continued to make exceptions for Rani even after reducing the number of custom assignments he takes on for Bollywood actors.

“I don’t do custom for Bollywood. But I did a custom sari for her. Because I don’t think Rani is Bollywood. She’s family,” the designer told Diet Sabya.

His comments underline the personal relationship he shares with the actress, which goes beyond the usual designer-celebrity association.

The wedding was deliberately kept extremely small, with only a select group of close family members and friends present. Filmmaker Karan Johar was among the guests at the intimate celebration.

Rani has previously spoken about the possibility of eventually making her wedding pictures public.

The actress once joked that releasing the photographs on their 25th wedding anniversary would be a “very good idea.” However, she also acknowledged that she was not convinced Aditya would agree to such a plan.

The couple welcomed their daughter, Adira, in 2015 and have continued to keep their family life largely away from the spotlight.
