General Hospital: Alley Mills Returns as Heather Webber After Two-Year Absence

Alley Mills is heading back to Port Charles.

The actress is set to reprise her role as Heather Webber on General Hospital, nearly two years after viewers last saw the character leave town.

Mills will make her return to the long-running ABC daytime drama on Thursday, November 5, bringing one of Port Charles’ most notorious characters back into the story.

The return was confirmed exclusively by TV Insider, with executive producer Frank Valentini welcoming Mills back to the series.

“We’re thrilled to have Alley Mills back as Heather,” Valentini told TV Insider. “There’s never a dull moment when Heather Webber is in Port Charles, and Alley is ready to stir up some trouble!”

Alley Mills’ Heather Webber Returns to Port Charles

Mills first joined General Hospital as Heather in October 2022, taking over one of the show’s longest-running and most complicated roles.

Her performance quickly earned recognition. Mills won Daytime Emmy Awards in 2023 and 2025 for Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series.

Her most recent appearance aired on October 28, 2024, when Heather left Port Charles with her son, Steven Webber, played by Scott Reeves, in an attempt to begin a new life away from the chaos surrounding her.

That departure, however, clearly wasn’t the end of Heather’s story.

Heather Webber Has Been Played by Four Actresses

Heather is a character with an unusually long history on General Hospital.

She was introduced in 1976, originally portrayed by Georganne LaPiere, who is also Cher’s half-sister. LaPiere played the role for approximately a year before Mary O’Brien took over from 1977 to 1979.

Robin Mattson subsequently assumed the part in 1980 and became the actress most strongly associated with Heather. Mattson’s final appearance in the role came in 2016.

Mills became the fourth actress to portray Heather when she joined the show in 2022.

Heather’s Troubled History in Port Charles

Heather’s storylines have repeatedly placed her at the center of some of General Hospital’s most dramatic plots.

One of her earliest major stories involved Jeff Webber, with Heather becoming pregnant with his child. After Jeff refused to leave Monica Webber, Heather gave their baby to nurse Diana Taylor and falsely claimed that she had suffered a miscarriage.

Heather later became the child’s nanny, allowing her to remain close to her son.

Her obsession with getting her child back eventually led to increasingly dangerous behavior, including an attempt to drive Diana insane with LSD. Heather accidentally took the drug herself and was subsequently institutionalized.

She later manipulated events to create an alibi while plotting against Diana and Jeff’s new romantic interest. However, the eventual revelation was that Diana’s mother, Alice Grant, was responsible for Diana’s death.

Heather’s later attempts at rehabilitation also failed spectacularly. Her schemes eventually involved Scotty Baldwin and a plot connected to the Quartermaine fortune, before she left Port Charles for Colorado.

Heather’s Return to the Quartermaines

Heather eventually returned to Port Charles in 2004, once again inserting herself into one of the city’s most powerful families.

She married Edward Quartermaine, but the marriage ended with Heather back in Ferncliff after Luke Spencer exposed her criminal activities.

When the character returned again in 2012, Heather became entangled in the lives of Jason Morgan and Sam Morgan.

Among her most disturbing schemes was tampering with a baby’s paternity results and switching Jason and Sam’s newborn with the stillborn child of Téa Delgado.

Heather also revealed a major secret involving Franco, claiming he was her son with Scotty Baldwin.

Kidnappings, attempted murders and repeated escapes followed, reinforcing Heather’s status as one of Port Charles’ most unpredictable villains.

The Hook Mystery Changed Heather’s Story

Mills’ arrival in 2022 introduced another major chapter in Heather’s complicated history.

Heather was eventually revealed to be the biological mother of Esme Prince, with serial killer Ryan Chamberlain revealed as Esme’s biological father.

The storyline became even darker when Heather was exposed as The Hook, the killer responsible for terrorizing Port Charles.

Heather had secretly been escaping from Spring Ridge Correctional Center to commit the crimes.

She eventually escaped alongside Ryan and Esme, although the trio’s plan fell apart. Heather was captured, while Ryan was killed. Esme later returned to Port Charles while pregnant.

Heather was subsequently devastated when Esme was presumed dead alongside Spencer Cassadine after the pair went overboard in France.

Cobalt Poisoning Complicated Heather’s Criminal Past

Heather’s story took another unexpected turn when doctors discovered that she had been suffering from cobalt poisoning caused by a defective hip replacement.

The condition was significant because cobalt toxicity can produce neurological and psychological symptoms.

After doctors removed the faulty implant, Heather’s behavior became noticeably more rational. That development raised questions about whether the poisoning had contributed to some of her violent and erratic actions.

Eventually, Heather’s conviction was overturned and she was released from Pentonville Penitentiary.

Her son Steven subsequently returned to Port Charles. At Curtis Ashford’s urging, Steven agreed to take Heather out of town, setting up her departure in October 2024.

What’s Next for Heather Webber?

With Mills now returning, Heather’s next storyline remains under wraps.

Given the character’s history, however, her arrival back in Port Charles is unlikely to be uneventful.

Mills’ return also reunites General Hospital with an actress whose portrayal of Heather has earned multiple Daytime Emmy wins and added another chapter to one of the soap’s most enduring characters.
