Parvathy Thiruvothu on Marriage: ‘I Chose to Buy a House’ After Father Gave Her a Choice

Parvathy Thiruvothu has spoken candidly about her perspective on marriage and recalled an important conversation she had with her father when she was 25. In an interview with Vanitha, the actor revealed that her father once gave her two options: seriously consider getting married or buy a house.

Parvathy chose the second option. She went ahead and purchased her first home, and according to the actor, her parents never brought up the subject of marriage with her again.

The 38-year-old actor is currently in the spotlight for her performance in Prathamadhrishtya Kuttakkar, which is running in theatres. The film features Parvathy in a lead role alongside Vijayaraghavan, Mathew Thomas, Sidharth Bharathan, Unnimaya and Azees Nedumangad.

Parvathy Thiruvothu recalls her father’s advice on marriage

Recalling the conversation from when she was 25, Parvathy said her father suggested that she either start thinking seriously about marriage or consider purchasing a home.

She recalled, “When I was 25, my father told me that I should either seriously consider getting married or buy a house. I replied by asking him to give me the papers to buy a house, saying that I would sign them. That is how I bought my first house. After that, my father and mother never mentioned marriage again.”

The actor’s account highlights how her family ultimately respected the choice she made rather than repeatedly bringing up the subject.

Parvathy says marriage should come from personal choice

Parvathy also explained that she does not believe marriage should be treated as a milestone that a person has to reach simply because they have reached a particular age.

For her, marriage would be a decision based on a genuine desire to build a life with another person. She said she would consider marriage only when she personally feels that she wants to spend her life with someone.

“I will consider marriage only when I genuinely feel, deep inside, that I want to spend my life with someone. I have been in relationships, but none of them progressed to the decision to get married,” she said.

Looking back at her past relationships, Parvathy added that she considers those experiences meaningful despite none of them leading to marriage.

“The good thing is that they were all beautiful relationships,” she said.

‘A family should make a decision about a woman’s marriage only with her consent’

Parvathy further spoke about the expectations women often face to marry at a particular age. She stressed that decisions concerning a woman’s marriage should involve her consent rather than being dictated solely by family or societal expectations.

“Society keeps saying that women should get married at a certain age, doesn’t it? A family should make a decision about a woman’s marriage only with her consent. I am lucky in that regard,” the actor said.

Her comments underline her view that marriage is ultimately a personal decision and that women should have an active say in whether and when they choose to marry.
