Posting the clip on Instagram, the 42-year-old actor wrote, “Me… who once thought walking was enough… Trying to power up for the weekend.” The lighthearted admission quickly sparked conversation around fitness routines for women in their 40s.

Is Walking Alone Enough After 40?

To understand the shift, consultant dietitian and fitness expert Garima Goyal explained that walking remains one of the most accessible and beneficial forms of physical activity.

According to her, walking supports cardiovascular health, enhances circulation, aids digestion, and boosts mental well-being. It is especially effective for beginners or those returning to exercise after a break.

However, she noted that as the body ages or fitness goals become more specific, walking alone may not address all physiological needs.

“While walking maintains basic activity levels, it does not sufficiently challenge muscle strength, bone density, or metabolic rate,” Goyal explained. Over time, this can result in gradual muscle loss, reduced joint stability, and slower metabolism — even among otherwise active individuals.

Why Strength Training Matters for Women in Their 40s

Trisha’s gym session reflects a broader wellness principle: progressive training becomes essential with age.

Strength training, mobility work, and core exercises help build lean muscle, protect joints, and improve posture. Resistance workouts stimulate bone health and enhance insulin sensitivity, while core strengthening improves balance and reduces injury risk.

For women in their 40s, these elements are particularly important due to hormonal changes that can impact muscle mass and bone density.

From a long-term health perspective, experts recommend viewing walking as a foundation rather than a complete routine. While it keeps the body moving, incorporating strength and flexibility exercises creates a more resilient and functional physique.

A Balanced Approach to Fitness

The most sustainable strategy combines walking with resistance training, mobility drills, and adequate recovery. This comprehensive approach supports cardiovascular health, metabolic efficiency, and musculoskeletal strength — key pillars for ageing well.

With her latest workout update, Trisha Krishnan not only showcased her commitment to staying fit but also highlighted an important message: evolving fitness habits can be crucial for long-term strength and vitality.
