Palash Muchhal breaks silence after wedding with Smriti Mandhana called off, warns legal action over baseless rumours

Music composer Palash Muchhal has issued his first detailed response after Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana confirmed that their much-talked-about wedding had been called off. Smriti’s team made the announcement on Sunday afternoon, and Palash later put out a separate statement expressing deep disappointment at the rumours circulating online.

Taking to Instagram Stories, Palash said he has chosen to “move on” from the relationship and will not tolerate misinformation being spread in the public domain.

“I have decided to step back from my personal relationship”

In his statement, Palash wrote:
“I have decided to move on in my life and step back from my personal relationship.”

He addressed viral social media claims suggesting he allegedly cheated during the pre-wedding ceremonies—rumours that many users linked to the sudden postponement of the wedding.

Calls rumours ‘baseless’ and deeply hurtful

Refuting the allegations, Palash said:
“It’s been very difficult for me to see people react so easily to baseless rumours about something that has been most sacred to me.”

Calling this one of the most challenging periods of his life, he added that he intends to handle the situation with grace.

“Our words can wound”

Palash urged people to stop spreading unverified gossip, saying:
“I truly hope we, as a society, learn to pause before judging someone based on unverified gossip. Our words can wound in ways we may never understand.”

He also noted that many around the world face unimaginable struggles and that irresponsible online chatter can trigger real-world consequences.

Legal action to follow

The composer concluded by announcing firm legal steps:

“My team will be taking strict legal action against those spreading false and defamatory content. Thank you to everyone who has stood by me with kindness in this tough time.”

Wedding was set for November 24

Smriti and Palash were scheduled to get married on November 24 in Sangli, the cricketer’s hometown. Members of the Indian women’s cricket team had attended pre-wedding ceremonies, and pictures and videos had gone viral on social media.

However, Smriti’s management announced early on the wedding day that it would be postponed indefinitely due to her father’s sudden hospitalisation. Palash and his family returned to Mumbai later, where he was reportedly admitted to a hospital as well.

The situation has since spiralled into widespread speculation, prompting both families to request privacy.
