Actor Sai Pallavi has long been admired for embracing natural beauty and staying true to her values. Years before stepping into the role of Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1, she made headlines for reportedly rejecting a ₹2 crore fairness cream endorsement, explaining that the decision was driven by personal conviction rather than financial considerations.

The actor, known for minimal makeup and authentic on-screen appearances, has consistently spoken about self-acceptance and the importance of rejecting unrealistic beauty standards.

Why Sai Pallavi said no to the endorsement

In a 2020 interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sai Pallavi explained that she could not promote a product that suggested fair skin was superior.

She said she believes people should feel confident about themselves regardless of their complexion.

“I don’t endorse beauty products. You need to be confident about who you are and your skin colour.”

The actor added that she has never been someone who relies heavily on cosmetics and prefers to present herself naturally, even appearing on screen without hiding her acne.

A deeply personal reason behind her decision

Sai Pallavi revealed that one of the biggest reasons behind rejecting the offer was watching her younger sister struggle with society’s beauty standards.

According to the actor, relatives and people around them often compared their skin tones, which affected her sister’s confidence while growing up.

She recalled that her mother would encourage her sister to eat more fruits and vegetables by telling her they would help make her complexion fair.

Watching this left a lasting impact on Sai Pallavi.

“I have seen her go through a lot. I am a tone fairer… sometimes my sister wouldn’t eat vegetables and fruits.”

Reflecting on the endorsement offer, she said:

“I felt I needed to stand up for that, at least for my sister’s sake, otherwise what will I do with all that money.”

Her own struggle with acne

Sai Pallavi also spoke candidly about battling acne before entering the film industry.

She admitted she once tried numerous skincare products because she felt self-conscious about her appearance.

“I wouldn’t want to leave home,” she recalled, explaining that she believed people noticed only her pimples instead of seeing her as a person.

Her perspective changed after her breakthrough Malayalam film Premam (2015), where audiences embraced her natural appearance.

The positive response gave her confidence and made her realise that authenticity could inspire others facing similar insecurities.

Using her platform responsibly

The actor believes celebrities have a responsibility to be mindful of the messages they send through endorsements.

Sai Pallavi said she did not want young people who admired her to question their skin colour or develop body image concerns because of an advertisement she appeared in.

At the same time, she clarified that she does not judge other actors who choose to endorse beauty products, describing it as a personal decision.

Busy with Ramayana

On the professional front, Sai Pallavi will next be seen portraying Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1, one of the most anticipated Indian films in recent years.

The epic stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and is scheduled to release in theatres on November 8, 2026.
