Actor Shamna Kasim, also known as Poorna, has revisited the alleged matrimonial fraud and blackmail attempt that led her family to approach police in 2020.
In an interview with Vanitha magazine, reported by The Indian Express, she described how a marriage proposal developed into a distressing experience involving allegedly false identities and coordinated deception.
A marriage proposal that raised suspicions
According to contemporary reporting, people posing as a prospective groom and his relatives contacted Shamna’s family about a marriage alliance.
The News Minute reported in June 2020 that a man allegedly used a false identity and presented himself as a businessman. Others were reportedly introduced as members of his family.
The complaint alleged that demands for money followed. Shamna’s mother approached Maradu police in Kochi, who registered a case and began making arrests. These details describe the allegations and investigation reported at the time, rather than a final judicial finding.
Shamna describes elaborate impersonation
Recalling the episode in her Vanitha interview, Shamna alleged that several people had worked together under the pretence of arranging a marriage.
She also recalled one person using multiple voices, describing the experience as difficult to comprehend. Her remarks are her account of what happened; the methods she described should not be presented as independently established findings.
Public attention added to her distress
Shamna said the coverage was emotionally difficult even though she felt supported by television channels and investigating officers.
She recalled becoming anxious whenever her name appeared on television. Her account highlights the pressure of experiencing an alleged crime while also facing repeated public discussion of it.
In a statement shared on June 30, 2020, she said her family had been misled by false names, addresses and identities. She also asked media organisations not to suggest that she had an association with the accused.
What was reported about the investigation?
The News Minute reported on June 29, 2020, that police had arrested eight people in connection with the case. Its coverage quoted Kochi City Police Commissioner Vijay Sakhare discussing the investigation and additional complaints from other women.
That arrest count is a historical update. The sources reviewed for this article do not establish the case’s present court status or a final verdict.
Her recent screen appearance
Shamna’s latest interview has attracted attention following her appearance in the song Ala Bolelo alongside Rajinikanth in Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer 2, according to The Indian Express.
Her comments revisit an incident from 2020; they do not describe a newly reported fraud case.
