Choreographer and dancer Shakti Mohan is confidently embracing single life at 40, challenging long-standing societal expectations around marriage and motherhood.
In a recent interview, she revealed that questions about her marriage have become a regular part of her life. “Many people keep asking me about marriage. Even my father recently asked if I’ve found someone, and my mother suggests I should at least have a boyfriend,” she shared.
Despite this, Shakti is completely content with her current life. “I am really having fun with my work and running my studio. I don’t feel like anything is missing. It’s society that believes you need someone,” she said, questioning traditional views on relationships.
She clarified that she is not against marriage but believes in waiting for the right person. “If I meet someone good, I’m open to it. But if there’s no one, why should I force it?” she explained, adding that a delayed marriage is far better than choosing the wrong partner.

Add Hunterfly on GoogleShakti also opened up about a painful past relationship where she was cheated on after being together for three years. She chose to end the relationship immediately, despite being advised to forgive. “I cannot accept that in my life. If someone cheats, it changes how you trust people,” she said.
The experience had a lasting emotional impact, making her more cautious about relationships. Even when her former partner tried to return and apologize, she decided to move forward instead.
Speaking about motherhood, Shakti shared that she does not feel the desire to have children. “I don’t have maternal instincts. I love my nephew, but I don’t want children of my own,” she admitted.
Through her honest perspective, Shakti Mohan highlights the importance of personal happiness, self-respect, and making life choices free from societal pressure.
