Sanjeev Kapoor, one of India’s most celebrated culinary figures, recently shared a lesser-known story about receiving the Padma Shri in 2017 — a moment that nearly didn’t happen the way it did.
A Special Honour With One Condition
Recounting the experience in his series “Kahani Khazana,” Kapoor revealed that while being chosen for the prestigious honour was a proud milestone, he had one firm request — to attend the ceremony in his chef’s uniform.
However, he was initially informed about protocol requirements that suggested formal Indian attire instead.

Kapoor later shared that the recognition felt larger than a personal achievement. For him, it symbolised respect for chefs across the country and the growing appreciation of culinary professionals in India.
