Runa Khan to Play a Film Heroine for the First Time in ‘Cholochittra: The Cinema’

Award-winning Bangladeshi actress Runa Khan is set to take on a role unlike any she has played on screen before. The actress has joined Ali Zulfikar Zahedi’s upcoming film Cholochittra: The Cinema, where she will portray a film heroine.

The project marks the first time Khan will appear as a movie actress within the story of a film, adding a new dimension to her diverse career across television, theatre and cinema.

Runa Khan Drawn to the Story

Khan said the story initially attracted her attention, and reading the screenplay further convinced her to take on the project.

For an actress known for choosing varied and character-driven roles, the opportunity fits her preference for performances that connect with real-life experiences.

“As an artist, I want to take on diverse roles, particularly those that reflect reality. This character offers that opportunity,” she said.

The film will focus on the lives of film heroines away from the cameras, exploring aspects of their existence that audiences generally do not see.

‘Actors Have Personal Lives Too’

According to Khan, Cholochittra: The Cinema will look beyond the characters performers portray on screen and examine the people behind those performances.

She believes audiences generally associate actors with their fictional roles, while their personal experiences and lives outside the frame receive considerably less attention.

“Actors are usually defined by their on-screen roles, but we also have personal lives and this film will tell that story,” she said.

That premise is one of the elements that attracted Khan to the project and the character.

First Time Playing a Film Heroine

Khan has previously portrayed a theatre artiste in a 2007 telefilm, giving her some familiarity with characters connected to the performing arts.

However, Cholochittra: The Cinema will be different. This will be her first on-screen role specifically as a film heroine.

Production is expected to begin during the winter. Khan indicated that the schedule could be delayed slightly if additional preparation is needed before filming starts.

The decision to allow more preparation time reflects the importance she places on understanding a character before bringing it to the screen.

Runa Khan Has Three More Films Awaiting Release

While Cholochittra: The Cinema is still preparing to go into production, Khan already has three completed films awaiting release.

They are Masud Pathik’s Bok, Kaushik Shongkor Das’s Daafon and Zahid Hossain’s Leela Monthan.

The three projects add to an increasingly varied filmography for Khan, who has continued to move between television, cinema and other forms of performance while selecting roles carefully.
