Veteran actor Ratna Pathak Shah recently shared candid observations about the behaviour of younger actresses in Bollywood, pointing out a trend where some seem overly concerned with being “cute” on set. She emphasized that this focus on image can sometimes overshadow professionalism and craft.
Focus Over Fluff
Speaking with Pinkvilla, Ratna Pathak highlighted her experiences observing actors across generations. She noted that many young actresses appear preoccupied with appearing charming or entertaining, which can inadvertently affect the credibility of their performances.
“Many new actresses feel the need to be the cute entertainer on set all the time. They think it will help them, but it often works against them,” she said.
Alia Bhatt Stands Out
However, Ratna made it clear that Alia Bhatt is a notable exception. During the shoot of Kapoor & Sons, although they didn’t share scenes, Ratna observed Alia’s attentive and focused approach. She was always watching her co-stars’ performances closely, learning from them and remaining quiet, letting her work speak for itself.
