Ram Kapoor and Gautami Kapoor Speak About Staying Calm in Dubai Amid West Asia Tensions

Actor couple Ram Kapoor and Gautami Kapoor have shared their experience of being in Dubai as tensions escalated across parts of West Asia, causing disruptions in flight operations and raising concerns among residents and travellers.

The couple, who frequently visit the United Arab Emirates, said they decided to remain calm despite the wave of rumours and worried calls from friends and family.

Unexpected Quiet in Dubai

Ram Kapoor, who often travels to the UAE, explained that he owns a home in Dubai and visits the city every few months.

“We have a house here, and I come here every two to three months,” he said. Gautami had arrived just a day before the situation escalated.

“Our son is currently away on a school trip and our daughter is studying in the US, so Gautami decided to join me here,” Ram added.

The couple first sensed that something unusual was happening while visiting the Dubai Mall.

“We live in Burj Khalifa. We were at the Dubai Mall when we noticed the mall slowly starting to close down. That’s when we realised something had happened,” Ram recalled.

Since the building is directly connected to the mall, they were able to quickly return home.

“For the next two days, most places remained shut, so we stayed indoors,” he said.

Rumours and Family Concerns

Gautami Kapoor said that family members were concerned after rumours began circulating online.

“We came home and the kids were constantly calling because of rumours that Burj Khalifa had been evacuated,” she said.

However, she added that the couple felt safe in the building.

“This is one of the most protected buildings here, and we feel secure,” Gautami noted.

An Unusually Quiet City

The couple also described how the city felt unusually quiet.

“We have never seen Dubai like this before,” Gautami said. “It’s usually full of people from around the world, so seeing it so silent felt eerie.”

Despite the situation, she praised the authorities for managing things effectively.

“Hats off to the government for handling everything so well. For us, Dubai truly feels like a home away from home,” she said.

Ram Kapoor added that residents have been receiving regular updates from authorities regarding the situation.

Some Friends Chose to Leave

While the couple decided to stay, Ram mentioned that some of their friends chose to leave the city quickly.

“One of my closest friends from my college days in New York was here in Dubai with his fiancée,” he said. “They were worried, so they drove overnight to Muscat, which is about five hours away, crossed the border and later flew to Mumbai and then to Delhi.”

Ram added that he and Gautami plan to return to Mumbai according to their original travel plans.
