Pune: Police have arrested the husband of Payal Zambre Patil after she was found dead in a flat in Mukund Nagar on Monday, November 2. Her family has alleged that she faced harassment over demands for gold.
According to PTI’s November 3 report, Swargate police registered a case of alleged abetment of suicide against her husband and his parents. Senior inspector Yashwant Nikam told the news agency that her husband, Akshay Zambre Patil, had been arrested and two teams were searching for the other accused.
Family raises allegations of harassment
Payal’s relatives have accused her husband and in-laws of repeatedly demanding gold. They have also disputed the circumstances of her death and alleged that she was killed. These remain allegations; the cited reporting does not establish a final finding on how she died.
The Indian Express reported that the family’s police complaint alleged physical and mental harassment linked to demands for money, gold and other valuables. Its report said the family had expressed an inability to meet the demands this year.
Banquet hall allegedly vandalised after death
Following news of Payal’s death, a group reportedly including her relatives reached Zambre Palace, a community and wedding hall associated with her in-laws, and allegedly damaged property inside the premises.
Police personnel went to the venue to bring the situation under control, according to The Indian Express. The reported damage occurred after her death became known.
Investigation continues
Swargate police are investigating the death and the allegations raised by Payal’s family. The cited reports do not include a response from the accused or their representatives.
The registration of a case and an arrest do not establish guilt. The allegations remain subject to investigation and the judicial process.
