A Delhi court criticised the actor’s absence from a hearing on November 2. Her legal team subsequently cited short notice and existing professional commitments.
A Delhi court has issued fresh summons to actor Nora Fatehi, directing her to appear as a witness on November 6, 2026, in the ₹200-crore extortion case involving Sukesh Chandrasekhar.
Additional Sessions Judge Gagandeep Singh expressed displeasure after Fatehi did not attend the November 2 hearing and her counsel sought exemption from personal appearance, according to hf.
What the court said
The court stressed that Fatehi was expected to attend because she had been called to give evidence. During the hearing, the judge cautioned: “Don’t take the court for granted.”
Delhi Police told the court that a notice had been communicated through email and WhatsApp, with follow-up phone calls also made. Police said they had received no confirmation that she would attend.
Nora Fatehi’s legal team explains her absence
In a statement reported on November 3, Fatehi’s legal team said her lawyers had appeared before the court and explained that the summons had reached her at short notice. They attributed her inability to attend to previously scheduled professional commitments.
The team also clarified that she had been called to assist the proceedings as a witness, rather than as an accused, and said no offence had been alleged against her in the matter. The statement identified November 6 as the next date for her appearance.
What the extortion case concerns
The proceedings relate to allegations that Chandrasekhar and his associates obtained money from Aditi Singh, wife of former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh, by impersonating government officials and promising assistance in securing her husband’s release from custody.
Charges have been framed against Chandrasekhar, his wife Leena Paulose and other accused under provisions concerning impersonation and extortion, alongside the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. These charges concern the accused in the case; Fatehi’s scheduled appearance is for testimony.
What happens next?
Fatehi has been directed to appear on November 6 to record her evidence. The fresh summons concerns her attendance as a witness and should not be presented as a finding of wrongdoing against her.
