Nimisha Thakuria Death: Guwahati Homestay Under Police Scanner as Father Seeks Strict Action

The death of 22-year-old Gauhati University student Nimisha Thakuria has prompted a police investigation into a homestay in Guwahati’s Dharapur area, where she had reportedly stayed before being found unconscious early Friday morning. Police are examining the property’s records and the circumstances surrounding her stay with Ashiq Ali, who has been taken into custody in connection with the case.

Investigators are also looking into whether guests were being accommodated at the property without the required documentation. Authorities have indicated that action could be taken against people associated with the establishment if evidence of violations or other wrongdoing emerges.

Nimisha’s father, Deepjyoti Thakuria, has meanwhile called for strict action against whoever is found responsible for his daughter’s death.

Nimisha Thakuria’s Father Demands Justice

Speaking about the case, Deepjyoti Thakuria said he wanted justice and urged the government to take stringent action against the person responsible.

“I want justice. I demand that the government take stern action against the culprit. What my child faced, the culprit should face a similar situation,” he said on Saturday.

His statement came as police continued questioning Ali and examining the circumstances that preceded Nimisha’s death.

The investigation is still underway, and authorities have not publicly established criminal responsibility in the case.

Guwahati Homestay Under Police Investigation

The property at the centre of the investigation is Rudra’s Kitchen, a homestay in Dharapur.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Bolin Deuri said investigators were examining the establishment’s records and verifying details concerning Nimisha and Ali’s visits.

According to preliminary information shared by police, the two had reportedly visited the homestay approximately five times during the previous month.

Police are also investigating whether the establishment followed required procedures for recording and verifying guests.

Deuri indicated that those associated with the property could face action if investigators find evidence of wrongdoing.

He also said police were prepared to take further action against people connected with the homestay if necessary as the investigation develops.

Nimisha Found Unconscious Near Garal PHC

Nimisha was a student enrolled in a five-year integrated course at Gauhati University.

According to the preliminary account, she was found unconscious near Garal Primary Health Centre at around 4:30 a.m. after reportedly spending the night with Ali.

Three men who found her reportedly took her to the health centre. She was subsequently transferred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Police are now reconstructing the events leading up to the discovery and are examining the circumstances in which she became unconscious.

Ashiq Ali in Police Custody

Police have taken Ashiq Ali into custody and are questioning him about his relationship with Nimisha, their movements and the events surrounding her death.

Ali has reportedly told investigators that Nimisha died by suicide after allegedly hanging herself.

Police have not confirmed that account as the established cause of death.
