Nanncy Gill has recalled how her martial arts training helped her secure a role in Udta Teer, the spy comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan.
Speaking to hf, Gill discussed auditioning for the film, preparing for action sequences and playing Sharon, a focused counter-terrorism agent. She also praised Khurrana’s supportive approach on set.
An audition followed by a boxing video
Gill said the casting process began with an approach from Casting Bay. After submitting an audition, she received a request for fitness and combat footage while holidaying in Dubai.
Already learning mixed martial arts, she recorded a boxing video with her family’s help. Confirmation that she had secured the part arrived roughly two weeks later.
Preparing for Sharon
Gill described Sharon as disciplined, quick-thinking and trained in combat. Her first day involved action rehearsals with Korean action director Oh Se-yeong, where she also met Khurrana.
Their shared Chandigarh background gave them an immediate point of connection.
Working with Ayushmann and Sara
Gill described Khurrana as “extremely humble, cooperative and considerate.” Most of her filming involved him and the wider team, while her scenes with Sara Ali Khan were completed over a shorter period.
She also remembered a demanding mountain chase, where repeated runs in cold conditions tested her despite her fitness preparation.
Udta Teer’s release
Directed by Akash A Kaushik, Udta Teer combines espionage with mistaken identity and comedy. The film opened in theatres on October 23, 2026.
