Kajol Reflects on Career Decisions After 34 Years in Cinema: “I Was Very Stubborn and Foolish”

Actor Kajol recently looked back on her decades-long journey in the film industry, describing some of her choices as “stubborn” yet ultimately rewarding.

Speaking about her career and future projects in a recent interview, the actor said she is currently exploring several scripts but has not yet finalised her next film.

Looking Back at Unconventional Career Choices

Reflecting on her 34-year journey in Indian cinema, Kajol acknowledged that many of her decisions were unconventional.

One such move was taking on a negative role in Gupt: The Hidden Truth, a choice that stood out during a time when leading actresses rarely played antagonists.

She also spoke about stepping away from films at the peak of her career — a decision that surprised many at the time.

“I feel I was very stubborn and foolish, and fortunately I was proved right,” Kajol said while discussing those choices.

She added that many women make similar decisions in their personal and professional lives but rarely receive recognition for them.

“I have always made my own decisions and I stand by them. I’m grateful that people have accepted my eccentricities with love,” she said.

Kajol on Upcoming Projects

While discussing her future plans, Kajol revealed that she is currently listening to multiple scripts.

However, she clarified that nothing has been officially finalised yet.

“I’m hearing a lot of scripts and there are two or three things I’m working on. But I don’t have anything concrete to announce right now,” she said.

Why the Right Team Matters

Kajol also emphasised that the people she works with are just as important as the story itself.

According to the actor, the environment on a film set can strongly influence the experience of making a movie.

“You spend nearly 50 days with the same people during a shoot. If you don’t connect with them, those 50 days can feel like 500,” she explained.

Because of this, she prefers working with collaborators she can relate to and communicate with comfortably.

Recent and Upcoming Films

Kajol was last seen in Sarzameen, which also starred Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan.

She will next appear in Maharagni: Queen of Queens, directed by Charan Tej Uppalapati.

The upcoming project features an ensemble cast including Prabhu Deva, Naseeruddin Shah, Samyuktha, Jisshu Sengupta, Aditya Seal, Pramod Pathak, and Chhaya Kadam.

After more than three decades in the industry, Kajol continues to remain selective about her projects, focusing on strong stories and meaningful collaborations.
