Helly Shah’s character Arohi in Ishqa Ishqa may remind viewers of Nikki from the psychological thriller Obsession. Both characters are associated with an intense idea of love that leaves little room for distance, separation or letting go. In the upcoming romantic thriller, Arohi’s attachment to Kabir threatens to disrupt the life he hopes to build with someone else.
The series follows Kabir, played by Satyajeet Dubey, and his childhood companion Arohi, whose relationship has long revolved around a game of dares. When Kabir attempts to move on with Suhani, played by Anushka Kaushik, Arohi’s return brings their unresolved feelings and complicated history back into focus.
Ishqa Ishqa Trailer: A Childhood Dare Turns Into a Complicated Love Triangle
At the centre of Ishqa Ishqa is the bond between Kabir and Arohi. What begins as a childhood game gradually becomes a defining feature of their relationship, with the dares shaping how they communicate and challenge each other.
As they grow older, however, Kabir begins to feel overwhelmed by the intensity of their equation. He challenges Arohi to stay away from him for a year, and she accepts. The separation gives Kabir an opportunity to reconsider what he wants from a relationship.
During that period, he meets Suhani, a photographer whose grounded approach to life offers him a different kind of companionship. Their connection gives Kabir the possibility of a relationship built around trust, emotional clarity and stability.
But when Arohi returns after completing the year-long dare, the two have very different interpretations of what the separation meant. Kabir sees it as an opportunity to move forward, while Arohi treats it as another challenge they have successfully completed.
Her return threatens to unsettle the life Kabir has begun building with Suhani, bringing the tension between the three characters to the forefront.
Why Helly Shah’s Arohi May Remind Viewers of Obsession’s Nikki
The comparison between Arohi and Nikki from Obsession stems from the way both characters approach love and attachment. Rather than accepting emotional distance, they are portrayed as unwilling to let go easily, creating tension for the people around them.
In Ishqa Ishqa, Arohi’s feelings for Kabir are intense, but the trailer’s central conflict also raises questions about the difference between loving someone and trying to control their choices.
Speaking about her character, Helly Shah described Arohi as someone whose emotions can shift between vulnerability and danger.
“Arohi loves Kabir with absolute intensity, but for her, love and possession are almost the same thing. She doesn’t believe in halfway emotions. What drew me to her was that she is not simply obsessive. She is intelligent, strategic and deeply emotional, which makes her unpredictable. There is vulnerability in her, but there is also a side of her that can be incredibly dangerous. Playing someone who can move between those two sides was challenging and exciting for me,” the actor said in a statement.
Her description suggests that Arohi is more than a character driven by romantic jealousy. Intelligence, emotional intensity and strategic behaviour are also part of her personality, making her relationship with Kabir central to the series’ suspense.
The comparison with Nikki offers one way to understand the character, although the two belong to different stories and should not automatically be treated as identical portrayals of obsession.
Satyajeet Dubey on Kabir’s Struggle Between Arohi and Suhani
Satyajeet Dubey plays Kabir, a sensitive character who finds himself caught between a complicated past and the possibility of a more settled future.
Describing his role, the actor said, “Kabir is a sensitive person who finds himself caught in a situation that becomes increasingly difficult to escape. While Suhani brings a sense of peace and emotional clarity into his life, Arohi’s intense presence continues to make it difficult for him to truly move forward.”
Kabir’s conflict is not simply about choosing between two people. He must also confront the effect his history with Arohi has on his ability to move on. The year-long dare, which initially appears to offer a clean break, instead becomes another source of tension when Arohi returns.
Anushka Kaushik’s Suhani Believes in Trust and Space
Anushka Kaushik plays Suhani, a photographer whose understanding of relationships differs from Arohi’s intense approach to love.
Speaking about her character, Anushka said, “Suhani is grounded, emotionally aware and has a clear understanding of what she wants from a relationship. She believes that love should come with trust and space, and that really shaped the way I approached her.”
Suhani represents a relationship in which personal boundaries and emotional security matter. Her presence challenges the dynamic Kabir has shared with Arohi since childhood, forcing him to consider what a healthy and sustainable partnership means to him.
As the three characters become entangled, Ishqa Ishqa explores the tension between emotional attachment, personal freedom and the desire to hold on to someone.
