Haryana has achieved a notable milestone in gender equality with its sex ratio at birth (SRB) rising to 923 in 2025, marking the highest level in five years. Officials attributed the progress to a combination of strict enforcement against female foeticide, illegal abortions, and the successful implementation of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiatives.
The state recorded 5,19,691 births in 2025, including 2,49,410 girls and 2,70,281 boys, compared with 5,16,402 births in 2024, which had 2,46,048 girls. The 13-point improvement from 910 in 2024 demonstrates the effectiveness of Haryana’s focused interventions.
District-Wise Performance
Panchkula emerged as the top-performing district with an SRB of 971, reflecting a 56-point jump from 915 in 2024. Other districts exceeding the state average included Ambala (926), Bhiwani (926), Hisar (926), Kaithal (924), Karnal (944), Kurukshetra (927), Mewat (935), Sirsa (937), and Yamunanagar (943).
However, some districts lagged: Gurugram saw a modest rise to 901, Sonipat declined to 894, and Jind registered 918. Improvements were also noted in Charkhi Dadri, Faridabad, Kaithal, and Panipat.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini highlighted that when the BJP government took office in 2014, Haryana’s sex ratio was only 871, one of the lowest nationwide.
The launch of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Panipat in 2015 spurred concrete action. Following a dip in SRB in 2024, the government formed a special task force under Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Sudhir Rajpal, holding weekly reviews with officials from health, AYUSH, women and child development, and the National Health Mission.
Strict enforcement measures included:
- 114 FIRs registered under the MTP Act, with 83 chargesheets filed.
- 154 raids under the PC-PNDT Act to prevent illegal prenatal sex determination.
- 41 chemist shops sealed and 395 MTP centres shut for violations.
- Reverse tracking of abortions for 12-week pregnancies following a previous girl child.
