The Telugu comedy Funky, starring Vishwak Sen and Kayadu Lohar, originally released in theatres on February 13, 2026 and is now available for streaming online. The film attempts to blend satire with romantic comedy but ends up delivering a rather chaotic narrative.

Plot

The story revolves around Komal, an aspiring filmmaker determined to direct his debut movie titled Funky. However, things quickly spiral out of control when the film’s budget exceeds expectations, putting immense pressure on the producer Sudarshan.

Due to the mounting financial strain and its impact on the production, Komal is eventually removed as the director. Chitra then steps in to complete the project and bring the film back on track.

The rest of the narrative follows the team’s struggle to finish the movie within a limited budget while dealing with personal and professional challenges. Amid these complications, Komal and Chitra gradually develop a romantic bond.

What Works

Funky attempts a self-aware approach by satirising mainstream filmmaking trends, including the industry’s fascination with formula-driven storytelling, mythological themes, franchises, and cinematic universes.

While the concept is quirky, the film occasionally manages to generate humour through its deadpan style.

Vishwak Sen delivers a convincing performance and carries much of the film’s energy. His on-screen chemistry with Kayadu Lohar adds a few entertaining moments, and their interactions provide some of the lighter highlights.

From a technical standpoint, the editing keeps the narrative moving at a steady pace even when the story becomes uneven.

What Doesn’t Work

Despite its promising premise, the film struggles with a thin storyline and an inconsistent screenplay. For a satire, the humour does not consistently land, which weakens the impact of the film’s central idea.

The narrative structure feels scattered, and the lack of clear storytelling direction ultimately dilutes the message the film attempts to convey.

Additionally, the music fails to leave a strong impression, making the overall experience feel less engaging than it could have been.

Performances

Vishwak Sen stands out as the driving force of the film and manages to keep several scenes engaging. Kayadu Lohar complements him well, and their chemistry contributes to the film’s few entertaining stretches.

Supporting actor Naresh also delivers some effective moments that add to the film’s humour.

Verdict

Funky has an interesting concept and a few entertaining scenes, but its unstructured screenplay and uneven storytelling prevent it from reaching its full potential. While fans of Vishwak Sen may still find parts of it enjoyable, the film ultimately feels messy and inconsistent.
