For months, Jana Nayagan has remained one of the most discussed unreleased films in Tamil cinema. The project, promoted as Vijay’s final acting film before his full-time political transition, has faced repeated delays linked to certification issues.

Now, fresh speculation about the movie’s release has surfaced after fans noticed a possible release date appearing on major ticketing platforms.

Excitement among fans increased after Jana Nayagan reportedly appeared on entertainment and booking platforms including BookMyShow and District with a June 19 release date.

Screenshots of the listings quickly spread across social media, triggering renewed anticipation around the long-delayed film.

However, the release date has not yet been officially confirmed by the makers.

Producers Still Awaiting CBFC Clearance

Despite the online listings, producer Venkat K Narayana recently clarified that the film is still waiting for certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Speaking briefly during a temple visit, the producer said:

“We’re waiting for the certificate to come. I am sure they are going to give it anytime soon.”

He also assured fans that the movie would receive a “grand worldwide release” once the certification process is completed.

While avoiding detailed comments about the controversy surrounding the delay, his statement confirmed that work on the release remains active.

Why Jana Nayagan Was Delayed

Jana Nayagan was originally expected to release in theatres on January 9, 2026. However, the release plans reportedly stalled after the film failed to receive timely certification.

According to industry reports, the movie was screened for the examining committee in late 2025, where several edits were allegedly suggested before a possible U/A certificate could be granted.

Reports further claimed that after the revised version was submitted, complaints regarding certain scenes led to the film being referred to a revising committee, extending the process significantly.

The delay reportedly affected overseas distribution plans, theatre bookings and promotional campaigns.

Vijay’s Comments Added Political Attention

The controversy surrounding the film became even more intense after Vijay reportedly suggested that external political factors may have contributed to the delay.

The actor-turned-politician had hinted that the prolonged certification process could be linked to the political environment in Tamil Nadu.

Although no official evidence has publicly supported those claims, the issue quickly became a major topic of discussion online and in political circles.

Public interest around the film increased further after Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu earlier this month.
