Ridhi Dogra Reacts to Twisha Sharma Case, Urges Young Couples to Stop Romanticising Marriage

Actor Ridhi Dogra has shared a detailed note on modern relationships, marriage and feminism amid ongoing discussions surrounding the Twisha Sharma and Deepika Nagar cases.

The actor urged young couples to stop idealising marriage and instead approach relationships with emotional maturity, mutual respect and realistic expectations.

Sharing her thoughts on social media, Ridhi wrote that society and relationship dynamics have changed significantly over the years, but many people still carry outdated expectations into marriage.

“Please stop romanticising marriage. The age of your parents and the world they grew up in has expired. Marriage is not the same,” she wrote.

According to Ridhi, women today are more independent and no longer rely on marriage for survival. She pointed out that financial independence and social awareness have changed traditional family structures and expectations.

“Girls don’t need marriage for survival. For companionship, yes. But not for dependency,” she added.

The actor also advised young women not to expect a “fairytale” transformation after marriage and reminded people that both men and women are adjusting to changing social realities.

“They are human too and are figuring this new world out,” Ridhi wrote while addressing expectations from men in relationships.

She further stressed that successful marriages should be built on love, equality and mutual respect rather than social pressure or family interference.

“Marry a person you love as a PERSON,” she said.

Ridhi also encouraged couples to maintain healthy boundaries with extended family members, adding that marriage is ultimately a partnership between two individuals.

The actor explained that conversations around mental health, emotional support and dignity should include both men and women.

She also reflected on how women today have greater opportunities and independence compared to previous generations, while emphasising the importance of compassion and understanding in relationships.

“Let there be grace and dignity. For both. Equally,” she concluded.

The discussion around Ridhi Dogra’s post comes amid public attention on the deaths of Twisha Sharma and Deepika Nagar.

Twisha Sharma was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. Her family has alleged dowry harassment and cruelty against her husband Samarth Singh and his mother.

According to reports, a post-mortem examination conducted at AIIMS Bhopal indicated suicide, with neck injuries reportedly consistent with hanging using a belt.

Meanwhile, Deepika Nagar, 24, allegedly died by suicide after reportedly facing repeated harassment and pressure related to dowry demands from her in-laws.

Following complaints by her family, police registered a case and arrested her husband Ritik and father-in-law Manoj as part of the investigation.
