‘Knew I’d Marry Priyanka Chopra Right Away’: Nick Jonas Recalls First Date, Meeting Her Mom the Same Night

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have been married for seven years, but according to Nick, he knew almost instantly that she was “the one.” In a recent appearance on the Jay Shetty Podcast, the singer-actor opened up about how he first noticed Priyanka, their early conversations, their very first date, and even meeting her mother on the same night.

From a Billboard to a DM

Nick recalled that his first introduction to Priyanka Chopra wasn’t in person, but through a billboard.

“I first saw her on a billboard for Quantico and thought, wow, she’s stunning,” he said.

Nick shared that although a mutual acquaintance believed they would hit it off, the two were never formally introduced. After waiting for months, Nick noticed that Priyanka followed him on Twitter and decided to message her directly.

Their First Meeting — And a 45-Minute Delay

The two exchanged text messages for nearly a year before finally meeting in person in New York. However, their first meeting came with a memorable twist.

“I almost left because she was 45 minutes late — which I now know is kind of her thing,” Nick joked.

Thankfully, he stayed.

Meeting Priyanka’s Mom on Night One

What made the evening even more unforgettable was that Nick ended up meeting Priyanka’s mother, Dr Madhu Chopra, that very night.

“We went back to her place for another drink, and her mom was watching Law & Order. So I met her mother on the first night — which felt kind of perfect,” he recalled.

‘I’m Going to Marry This Woman’

Nick revealed that when they finally went on an official date in Los Angeles, he had a moment of absolute clarity.

“She walked in wearing blue jeans, a white top and a black leather jacket, and I just knew — I’m going to marry this woman,” he said.

He added that he told Priyanka he loved her after just their second or third date. Within months, they were engaged and soon married.

First Kiss, Wedding Day and Everyday Quirks

Nick also shared that their first kiss happened on the balcony of Priyanka’s hotel in Los Angeles. Talking about their wedding day, he said he wasn’t nervous — except about the heat.

“When she walked down the stairs, I felt this overwhelming sense of peace. I knew I was exactly where I was meant to be.”

The couple also laugh about each other’s habits. While Priyanka gets annoyed when Nick talks and texts at the same time, Nick admits he gets distracted when Priyanka calls him but starts talking to someone else mid-call. He also revealed that Priyanka finds it hilarious when he slips into his “desi” side.

Setting an Example for Daughter Malti Marie

Speaking about fatherhood, Nick said that how he treats Priyanka will shape their daughter Malti Marie’s understanding of relationships.

“My responsibility is to make Priyanka feel safe, happy, and loved — because our daughter is watching,” he said.

Nick also explained that they plan to keep Malti away from the spotlight unless she chooses otherwise, adding that fame should always be a personal choice.
