Sonakshi Sinha Reflects on Her Changing Film Choices: ‘I’m Doing Only the Work I Want to Do Now’

Sonakshi Sinha says her journey from colourful commercial entertainers to more character-driven projects has been a natural evolution. As the actor prepares for the release of her upcoming streaming film System, she has reflected on how her choices as a performer have changed over the years.

Speaking to IANS during promotions for System in Mumbai, Sonakshi looked back at the early phase of her career, when she appeared in mainstream entertainers such as Rowdy Rathore and R… Rajkumar.

The actor said she enjoyed working on those films and believes they played an important role in shaping the career she has today.

Sonakshi Sinha on Her Early Masala Films

Reflecting on the kind of cinema she was doing earlier in her career, Sonakshi said she enjoyed the colourful and commercial world of masala entertainers.

“I really thoroughly enjoyed myself working on those films. I think at that time, I was also in a time where I was doing a lot of these very colourful and very, so to speak, spicy films. And I enjoyed that too.”

For Sonakshi, the change in her filmography does not mean she looks back negatively on her earlier choices. Instead, she sees those projects as part of a larger professional journey.

She added that the roles she takes up today represent where she currently stands as an actor.

“And I think the work that I’m doing now I enjoyed that too. I think at that point of time, that was what was required from me as an artiste. And now this is what is required from me as an artiste.”

‘I Want to Be That Actor You Can Put in Any Film’

Sonakshi said her ambition has always been to explore different kinds of stories and characters rather than limit herself to a particular genre.

“I want to be that actor that you can put in any film. And I will try to be that.”

The actor also noted that she has reached a stage in her career where she has greater freedom to choose projects that genuinely interest her.

“But of course, I’ve reached a point also where I’m doing only the kind of work that I want to do now.”

Her recent work has seen her take on projects across different formats and genres, reflecting a shift towards roles that allow her to explore new aspects of her craft.

Why Sonakshi Is Grateful for Her Earlier Career Choices

While her current preferences may be different, Sonakshi believes the films she did earlier helped create the foundation for the opportunities available to her today.

“I think I had to do those films to kind of land up doing the films that I’m doing today. So, that brought me the audience, that brought me the love and support of so many people.”

She added that the support she received over the years has given her the freedom to explore different roles.

“Which is why I’m able to do roles like this today. So, I’m very grateful.”

For the actor, the journey appears to be less about moving away from one kind of cinema and more about expanding the range of stories she wants to tell.

Sonakshi Sinha Takes on a New Role in System

Sonakshi will next be seen in System, a courtroom drama in which she plays Neha, a young and determined lawyer.

The film marks her first role as a lawyer. Her character faces a major professional challenge when her father, played by Ashutosh Gowariker, asks her to prove herself worthy of becoming a partner at his law firm.

The story places Neha at the centre of a demanding legal and personal journey as she attempts to establish her own identity.

Jyothika also features in the film as a stenographer, while Harman Baweja and Smitha Baliga are part of the cast.

System Release Details

System is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on May 22, according to the information provided during the film’s promotions.
