Mandakini Breaks Silence on Dawood Ibrahim Photo: ‘The Controversy Did a Lot of Damage’

Veteran actor Mandakini has revisited one of the most controversial episodes of her career—the photograph in which she was pictured alongside Dawood Ibrahim—and said the controversy had a lasting impact on her professional life.

In a recent interview with ANI, Mandakini said she was not in Dubai to watch a cricket match with Ibrahim, nor was she invited by him. According to her account, she had travelled to Dubai for a show and happened to be at a venue where many people were present.

The photograph later became the subject of widespread speculation, something Mandakini says she had little control over.

“There were a lot of people seated at the match, and he was just sitting there,” she said, explaining her version of how the photograph came about.

Mandakini also firmly rejected the suggestion that Dawood Ibrahim had invited her to Dubai.

Addressing the long-running speculation directly, Mandakini said she was not invited by Dawood Ibrahim.

She also suggested that she was unfamiliar at the time with the way a photograph or an incidental encounter could become the centre of a larger controversy.

Mandakini said artists interact with thousands of people and, in her view, those interactions do not necessarily imply a personal association beyond the circumstances in which they occur.
