Avika Gor has opened up about her recent battle with dengue, revealing that the illness left her dealing with weakness and fatigue even after the fever subsided. The actress says the experience taught her to prioritise rest, hydration and recovery instead of rushing back to work.
Actress Avika Gor has spoken candidly about a recent health setback that forced her to step away from her usual routine. The Balika Vadhu star was diagnosed with dengue while she was in Mumbai with her family and says the experience reminded her of the importance of listening to her body.
Although she was not hospitalised, Avika remained under medical supervision and took the necessary precautions during her recovery. For the actress, having her family around and already having a planned break from professional commitments made it easier to concentrate on getting better.
“I was diagnosed with dengue recently while I was in Mumbai. Thankfully, I was surrounded by my family through the whole process. I had already planned a break after my work commitments, so I was able to focus completely on recovering without having to immediately rush back into a schedule,” Avika said.

While the fever eventually subsided, Avika revealed that the effects of the illness did not disappear immediately.
“Dengue can take a lot out of you, and even once the fever subsides, the weakness can stay for a while,” she explained.
The actress said she was not hospitalised but continued her recovery under medical supervision. She also made sure to follow the precautions recommended during her illness.
For Avika, one of the biggest lessons from the experience was that recovering from an illness involves more than simply waiting for the most noticeable symptoms to disappear.
“I learnt that recovery is not just about the fever going away; you have to give your body the time and rest it needs to actually regain its strength,” she said.

Family support helped Avika during the difficult period
Being surrounded by family proved especially valuable for Avika during her illness.
The actress was in Mumbai when she was diagnosed and says having her family beside her throughout the process provided a supportive environment while she focused on recovering.

For someone working in an industry where schedules can often be demanding, that time away from work allowed her to place recovery ahead of professional pressure.
“Rest is not unproductive”
The experience has also changed the way Avika thinks about taking breaks.
She acknowledged that actors can become accustomed to continuing to work even when they are physically exhausted. According to her, the illness made her reconsider that approach.
“As actors, we sometimes get so used to working through exhaustion that we forget that the body has its own timeline. This experience has reminded me that rest is not unproductive; it is also a part of taking care of yourself,” she said.
Her observation reflects a broader shift in how recovery and rest are viewed. Rather than treating a break as lost productivity, Avika now sees it as part of maintaining the physical and mental energy needed to work consistently.
Avika plans to be more mindful about her health
Following her recovery, Avika says she is trying to make healthier choices and pay closer attention to the signals her body sends her.
“I’m definitely trying to be more mindful about my health and, more importantly, about listening to my body. I’m focusing on proper rest, hydration, good food and not immediately jumping back into a hectic routine,” she said.
The actress also admitted that she has not always placed her health high enough on her list of priorities.
“This experience has made me realise that your health cannot always be something you attend to after everything else is done,” Avika said.
She added that she is now trying to maintain a healthier routine and give herself sufficient time to rest whenever necessary.
A reminder to slow down when necessary
For Avika, the dengue diagnosis has ultimately become a lesson in slowing down.
“When your body asks you to slow down, you have to listen,” she said.
The actress now wants to avoid treating rest as something that needs to be earned only after completing every other responsibility. Instead, she believes taking a pause when necessary is an important part of looking after oneself.
Her experience also underlines why people recovering from illnesses should not assume that the disappearance of a fever automatically means they are ready to resume their normal workload. Recovery can take time, and returning to a demanding routine too quickly may leave the body struggling to regain its strength.
Avika’s immediate focus is therefore on maintaining a balanced routine, staying hydrated, eating well and allowing herself adequate rest.
For an actor whose career requires long working hours and demanding schedules, the experience appears to have offered an important perspective: sometimes stepping back is not a setback. It is part of moving forward.
