Anushka Sen Takes Her Next Big Step With Korean Cinema Debut in Asia

Indian actor Anushka Sen is expanding her international footprint with a Korean cinema debut in the action thriller Asia, while continuing to build on the success of Prime Video’s Dil Dosti Dilemma.

Known for beginning her career as a child performer, Sen has steadily developed a profile that extends beyond Indian television and streaming. Her latest international opportunity marks another chapter in a career increasingly connected with audiences and creators across Asia.

From Baalveer to International Projects

Sen first gained widespread recognition as a child actor through the fantasy television series Baalveer, which aired on SAB TV in 2012.

She later took on the title role in Colors TV’s Jhansi Ki Rani in 2019, portraying Rani Lakshmi Bai in the historical series. The role helped establish her as a prominent young performer on Indian television.

In 2021, Sen also became the youngest contestant on Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 11, adding reality television to her growing body of work.

Her career has since expanded into streaming and international productions.

Anushka Sen’s Korean Cinema Connection

Sen’s connection with South Korea began partly through her longstanding interest in Korean popular culture.

She has spoken about being a fan of K-pop and K-dramas, with BTS, Blackpink and NewJeans among the artists she follows. She has also expressed admiration for Korean actor Lee Min-ho and listed shows such as The Heirs, The Legend of the Blue Sea and The King: Eternal Monarch among her favourites.

During the COVID-19 period, Sen said Korean dramas became a source of comfort and inspiration for her. She also began imagining the possibility of collaboration between Indian and Korean entertainment.

That interest eventually translated into a professional opportunity.

Working With Asia Lab

Sen’s Korean collaboration began after Asia Lab, a Korea-based company involved in content production, entertainment and travel, began following her career.

The company eventually signed Sen, with one of the early collaborations being the 2022 YouTube travel vlog God of Travel.

The project documented her experiences travelling through Korea and interacting with Korean culture, giving her an opportunity to develop a professional connection with the country’s entertainment ecosystem.

Asia Marks Her First Assassin Role

Sen is now part of the cast of Asia, an action thriller directed by Lee Jung-sub.

The film brings together performers from different Asian countries and is being positioned as a multinational project.

For Sen, the film represents a particularly significant challenge because she is playing an assassin for the first time.

She has already completed the project’s first shooting schedule, with another schedule still to follow.

The international production gives the actor an opportunity to work in a different filmmaking environment while participating in a story designed around performers from across Asia.

Dil Dosti Dilemma Gives Sen a Streaming Success

While developing her international career, Sen has also been receiving attention for her work in Prime Video’s Dil Dosti Dilemma.

Directed by Debbie Rao, the Bengaluru-set coming-of-age series follows Asmara, a teenager whose summer changes after she is sent to her grandparents’ neighbourhood.

Wanting to maintain her social image, Asmara tells her friends that she is spending the summer in Canada. However, her experience in her grandparents’ community introduces her to new friendships, family relationships, personal lessons and romance.

The series is based on Andaleeb Wajib’s 2016 novel Asmara’s Summer.

A Challenging Audition Led to Asmara

Sen has described her audition for Dil Dosti Dilemma as particularly demanding.

According to the actor, director Debbie Rao deliberately changed lines and the pace of scenes during the audition to test her ability to adapt.

The experience ultimately helped Sen secure the role of Asmara.

Following the show’s release, Sen said she was pleased to see audiences connect with the characters and expressed excitement about viewers already asking for a second season.

A Young Actor With a Large Digital Following

Sen’s influence extends well beyond her screen appearances.

With a substantial following on Instagram, she has developed a particularly strong connection with younger audiences. She has described that reach as both an opportunity and a responsibility.
