Veteran Bollywood actor Susmita Mukherjee has shared an emotional account of one of the most difficult phases of her life, revealing that severe financial pressure forced her to accept film projects she would not have otherwise chosen.
Speaking in a recent video shared on Instagram, the actor reflected on the collapse of her production company, mounting debt and the personal sacrifices she made to protect her family and rebuild her life.
“I Was Forced by Circumstances”
Responding to a question about why she appeared in films she later regretted, Susmita said the decision came during an extremely challenging period rather than out of personal preference.
She explained that while she had worked in many respected films throughout her career, she also accepted projects she did not feel proud of because she urgently needed income.

Susmita revealed that in 2002, she and her husband experienced a major financial setback when their production company, Prayas Production, collapsed.
According to the actor, the company had taken a loan of around ₹1 crore, and rapid changes in technology and the entertainment business left them unable to recover financially.
She recalled that creditors frequently visited their home demanding repayment, creating enormous stress for the family while their children were still very young.
Repaying the Loan Became the Priority
The actor said she returned to work because repaying the outstanding loan became her family’s highest priority.
