Richa Chadha is stepping into non-fiction production with Musafiri, a travel and culture series that begins with an eight-episode exploration of Mumbai.
Richa Chadha is taking her association with storytelling in a new direction.
The actor and producer has unveiled the first look of Musafiri, a non-fiction travel series conceived around her personal connection with Mumbai. The project marks her non-fiction production debut and is designed to explore the city beyond the usual tourist landmarks.
The first season will feature eight episodes, with the entire season set across Mumbai.

Richa Chadha calls ‘Musafiri’ her love letter to Mumbai
For Richa, Mumbai is more than the setting for the first season. It is the city where her professional journey developed and where she built a significant part of her life as an artist.
Explaining the idea behind the series, Richa said Mumbai has played a central role in her journey.
“Mumbai has been my karmabhoomi and I feel exceptional love for it, because it is still relatively safe for women,” she said.
The actor added that years of living and working in the city made her realise how many stories exist within places that people often pass without noticing.

She described Musafiri as “my humble love letter to this incredible city.”
The series looks beyond conventional travel content
According to Richa, Musafiri is intended to encourage audiences to slow down and observe their surroundings rather than simply move from one tourist destination to another.

That approach gives the project a broader cultural focus. Instead of treating Mumbai simply as a backdrop, the series is expected to explore the history and human stories embedded in the city’s different areas.
Markets, heritage sites, neighbourhoods and communities are among the elements highlighted in the show’s concept.
Mumbai is only the beginning for ‘Musafiri’
Although the first season remains entirely focused on Mumbai, Richa has indicated that the larger vision for Musafiri extends beyond Maharashtra’s capital.
“Mumbai is where our journey begins, but it certainly doesn’t end here,” she said.
The actor-producer hopes the series can eventually document stories from different parts of India, particularly those that receive limited attention in mainstream travel programming.
“India is home to countless untold stories, forgotten traditions, remarkable people, and extraordinary places that deserve to be documented and celebrated,” she added.
That ambition could potentially turn Musafiri into a broader exploration of India’s cultural and geographical diversity in future seasons.
Richa Chadha wants viewers to see familiar places differently
At the heart of Musafiri appears to be the idea that travel does not necessarily require going somewhere completely unknown.
A familiar street, an old building, a neighbourhood market or a local community can reveal something new when explored with greater attention.
Richa said she hopes the series encourages audiences to approach travel with curiosity and empathy while developing a stronger appreciation for the heritage around them.
“My hope is that Musafiri inspires people to look at familiar places with fresh eyes and encourages them to travel with curiosity, empathy, and a deeper appreciation for the heritage that surrounds us,” she said.
What to expect from ‘Musafiri’
The first season of Musafiri will consist of eight episodes and will remain within Mumbai.
Further details about the individual locations, stories and format of the episodes have not yet been revealed.
With its Mumbai-first approach and plans for a wider national exploration, the series could offer a different perspective on travel storytelling—one focused less on ticking destinations off a list and more on understanding the places and people encountered along the way.
For Richa Chadha, Musafiri represents another expansion of her creative work as a producer, while for viewers it could become an invitation to rediscover a city that many believe they already know.
The journey begins in Mumbai. The larger destination, however, appears to be India itself.
