At a time when conversations around formula-driven storytelling are gaining momentum, Priya’s remarks add to the ongoing debate.

Speaking about her approach to acting, Priya shared that she has never followed a conventional path. Instead of choosing roles based on trends or commercial formulas, she prefers characters that feel engaging and different. She emphasised that her decisions have always been driven by interest rather than strategy, adding that she would rather experiment than repeat familiar patterns.

“I Choose Roles That Excite Me”

Reflecting on her career choices, Priya explained that she has consistently leaned towards unconventional roles. She believes that spending long days on set should feel creatively fulfilling, which is why she avoids characters that feel repetitive or predictable.

While she has explored genres like romantic dramas in the past, she admitted that such roles did not resonate with her for long. According to her, simply appearing on screen without depth or challenge is not something she finds satisfying.

Strong Criticism of Bollywood’s Repetitive Content

Priya did not hold back while addressing the larger industry. She pointed out that many Hindi films today follow similar templates, with little room for innovation. In her view, the industry is relying heavily on what has worked before instead of exploring new ideas.

She also noted that she finds it difficult to connect with many recent Bollywood films, describing them as repetitive and predictable. According to her, the charm of storytelling is lost when the same patterns are repeated without fresh perspective.

OTT Platforms Driving Change

In contrast, Priya praised OTT platforms for encouraging originality. She highlighted how streaming services are backing unique concepts, often featuring new talent and unconventional narratives.

She believes that these platforms are creating space for stories that may not fit into traditional commercial frameworks. This shift, she added, is helping audiences discover content that feels different and engaging.

Films Struggle Without Backing

Priya also spoke about the business side of the industry, acknowledging that financial considerations often influence creative decisions. She pointed out that many innovative projects fail to reach audiences due to lack of support or backing.

According to her, even films with strong concepts depend heavily on platforms willing to take risks. Without that support, many original ideas remain unseen.

About Her Recent Work

Priya Banerjee was recently seen in Candy and the Pizza Ggirl, a film that blends dark humour, crime, and unpredictable storytelling. The narrative follows a group of eccentric characters navigating a series of unusual events over the course of a single night.

The film reflects the kind of offbeat storytelling Priya advocates for—something she believes is essential for keeping cinema fresh and engaging.
