Chennai, March 2026: Fans of Silambarasan TR and Vetrimaaran have reason to be excited as their upcoming project Arasan gears up for production. The gangster action thriller, set within the Vada Chennai cinematic universe, promises a faster production schedule compared to Vetrimaaran’s usual meticulous process.
At a recent event, Vetrimaaran shared insights about the project, saying, “This time, I wrote the story first and only then went for the shoot. This will be a quicker film than my other films. In a few days, we might be able to release some footage. Until then, we are holding it.” Unlike many of his previous ventures, the director has completed the screenplay beforehand, paving the way for a swift production.
Star Cast and Music
Alongside Silambarasan TR, the film features Vijay Sethupathi as a co-lead, with Yogalakshmi and Chaitra J Achar in key roles. Anirudh Ravichander makes his first collaboration with Vetrimaaran, composing the music for the high-octane thriller.
Vijay Sethupathi recently told The Hollywood Reporter India, “Vetrimaaran narrated five or six stories to me during the Viduthalai shoot itself. I do know the story and script of Arasan, but I don’t know which character I’m playing. I am blindly trusting him.”

Simbu was last seen alongside Kamal Haasan in Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam, which explored the rivalry between an ageing gangster and his foster son. Despite a star-studded cast including Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, and Mahesh Manjrekar, the film had an underwhelming response.
In addition to Arasan, Silambarasan TR is rumored to collaborate with Ashwath Marimuthu for a fantasy action entertainer tentatively titled STR51, potentially co-starring Mrunal Thakur.
With Arasan slated to release teaser footage soon, Kollywood enthusiasts are eager to see how this Vada Chennai spin-off will expand the universe while delivering the high-octane action the audience loves.
