Shanaya Kapoor Opens Up About Shelved Debut ‘Bedhadak’: “It Made Me Who I Am Today”

Bollywood actor Shanaya Kapoor has spoken candidly about her early career setback after her debut film Bedhadak, backed by Dharma Productions, was shelved. In a recent interview, the actor shared that while the decision was disappointing at the time, it ultimately strengthened her resilience and commitment to acting.

Shanaya reflected that certain opportunities not materialising pushed her to work harder behind the scenes. Instead of being discouraged, she used the phase to refine her performance skills and deepen her understanding of cinema.

The film was initially announced by filmmaker Karan Johar, generating significant industry buzz. However, its shelving became an unexpected turning point in Shanaya’s journey.

Family Guidance and Focus on Craft

Her father, Sanjay Kapoor, advised her to concentrate on improving her craft rather than worrying about circumstances beyond her control. He encouraged her to rehearse consistently, even if that meant performing scenes independently to stay prepared for future opportunities.

Shanaya acknowledged that this advice helped her remain grounded and professionally focused during uncertain times.

Acting Debut and Career Progression

Before stepping in front of the camera as a lead, Shanaya worked as an assistant director on Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, gaining valuable behind-the-scenes experience.

She eventually made her big-screen debut opposite Vikrant Massey in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, directed by Santosh Singh.

Her latest release, Tu Yaa Main, features her alongside Adarsh Gourav and is directed by Bejoy Nambiar. The project is backed by Aanand L Rai under Colour Yellow Productions. The survival drama is an adaptation of the Thai thriller The Pool.

While box office results have been modest, Shanaya views each project as a step forward in her artistic evolution.
