Actress Gayathrie Shankar, who received widespread acclaim for her role as Devi in director Selvamani Selvaraj’s Kaantha, is now set to represent India at the World Beach Ultimate Championships (WBUC) 2025. Kaantha, starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead, features Gayathrie as a woman from a privileged background who faces adversity with resilience—a performance that has won her praise from audiences and critics alike.
Balancing Film and Sport
While Kaantha continues to perform well in theatres, Gayathrie has turned her attention to her sporting passion. In an exclusive conversation with Zoom, she opened up about her journey as an Ultimate Frisbee athlete.
“I have been an Ultimate Frisbee athlete for about 10 years now, playing with various club teams in Chennai and Kerala. Representing my country on an international platform was a natural step for me,” said Gayathrie. She added that competitive sports have positively impacted her life, helping her grow both as an actor and an individual.
The WBUC 2025 will run for seven days, from Sunday, November 16 to Saturday, November 22, 2025, in Portimão, Portugal, bringing together top athletes from around the world.
