A social media video by a Polish woman who has spent years living in India is generating widespread discussion online after she drew comparisons between how heat-related crises in Europe and India are often perceived.

Agnieszka Hadala, a Polish content creator currently in Poland, shared a video reflecting on the severe heatwave affecting parts of Europe. Her comments quickly gained attention across social media platforms, where viewers debated climate challenges, public perception and the role of global media narratives.

A Heatwave Sweeping Across Europe

In the video, Hadala described the unusually high temperatures being recorded across parts of Europe, including Poland.

She noted that temperatures in some regions had crossed 35 degrees Celsius, including areas that traditionally experience milder weather.

According to her, the extreme heat has disrupted daily life in several European countries, affecting schools, transportation systems and energy infrastructure.

She also highlighted a challenge that has become increasingly visible during recent European heatwaves: many homes and offices were designed for cooler climates and therefore lack widespread air-conditioning systems.

“Trust me, it feels brutal,” she said while describing the conditions she was experiencing.

The Comparison With India

The central argument of Hadala’s video focused on what she believes is a difference in how similar situations are discussed globally.

“When India suffers, it’s called a failure. When the West suffers, it’s called a tragedy,” she said.

Her remarks centered on the idea that climate-related hardships should be viewed through a lens of empathy regardless of where they occur.

She pointed out that temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius are a regular occurrence in several parts of India during summer months, with some regions experiencing even higher temperatures.

By contrast, many European countries are less accustomed to such prolonged heat, making recent heatwaves particularly disruptive.

Viral Images and Public Perception

Hadala also referred to past viral photographs showing people in India sleeping outdoors during power cuts and periods of extreme heat.

According to her, those images were often shared online with humor or criticism rather than understanding.

She contrasted those reactions with recent reports from parts of Europe where residents have sought relief by spending evenings and nights in parks, beaches and other public spaces during the heatwave.

Her broader message was that people facing difficult weather conditions deserve compassion regardless of nationality or geography.

“This time, the world doesn’t mock them—it empathises. And empathy is exactly what every human deserves,” she said.

Clarifying Her Position

Toward the latter part of the video, Hadala emphasized that her comments were not intended to dismiss India’s challenges.

She acknowledged that India continues to face issues related to infrastructure, development and poverty.

However, she argued that discussions about India often overlook the scale at which the country operates.

With a population exceeding 1.4 billion people, she suggested that many comparisons between India and smaller Western nations fail to account for the vastly different logistical realities involved.

“Climate extremes are now a global reality. No country is immune,” she said.

The Internet Reacts

The video attracted thousands of comments and sparked a broader discussion about climate resilience, media framing and international perceptions.

Many viewers praised Hadala for raising what they considered an important point about consistency in public discourse.

Some users argued that India’s ability to function during extreme temperatures often receives little recognition internationally.

Others pointed to the country’s extensive transportation networks, delivery systems and daily economic activity that continue despite challenging weather conditions.

At the same time, some commenters offered a more nuanced perspective, noting that different regions face different environmental realities and have developed infrastructure suited to their specific climates.

Several users observed that European countries are generally better adapted to cold weather, while Indian cities and communities have more experience dealing with intense heat.

A Broader Conversation About Climate Change

Beyond the debate itself, the video arrives at a time when climate experts continue to warn about the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events worldwide.

Heatwaves have become more common across multiple continents, affecting countries regardless of their level of development.

Recent years have seen record-breaking temperatures in Europe, North America, Asia and other regions, highlighting the growing global nature of climate-related challenges.

As a result, conversations about adaptation, infrastructure and public preparedness are becoming increasingly relevant across the world.

Why the Video Resonated

The popularity of Hadala’s post appears to stem from its focus on a broader question rather than a specific weather event: how societies respond to hardship when it occurs in different parts of the world.

For some viewers, the discussion was about media narratives.

For others, it was about climate resilience and infrastructure.

And for many, it was simply a reminder that extreme weather affects real people regardless of where they live.

As heatwaves continue to impact communities across continents, the conversation sparked by Hadala’s video underscores a growing reality: climate challenges are no longer confined to any one country or region, and responses to them increasingly require both practical solutions and shared empathy.
