Ahilya Talks About Women’s Representation in South Cinema Ahead of Sing Geetham Release

After her debut in I Want To Talk, where she portrayed Abhishek Bachchan’s daughter under director Shoojit Sircar, actress Ahilya is now preparing for her entry into Telugu cinema with the upcoming musical drama Sing Geetham.

The film, directed by veteran filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, is scheduled for release on June 11 and has already generated buzz for its music by Devi Sri Prasad and its ensemble cast featuring Ayaan, Ahilya, and Shalini Kondepudi.

In a recent exclusive conversation, Ahilya spoke candidly about how women are represented in cinema, especially in mainstream South Indian films.

She emphasized the importance of diversity in writing rooms, suggesting that balanced representation behind the scenes naturally leads to more realistic and relatable characters on screen.

In her view, cinema that focuses less on superficial treatment and more on storytelling craft tends to leave a longer impact.

She added that there are already several films that demonstrate subtle and powerful storytelling without relying on exaggerated cinematic techniques, and she hopes this trend continues to grow.
