Sepultura Announces Final Concert After 40-Year Legacy in Heavy Metal Music

Legendary heavy metal band Sepultura has confirmed that it will officially conclude its decades-long career with a final concert scheduled for November 7 in São Paulo, Brazil.

The performance, set to take place at Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu, will serve as the closing chapter of the group’s global farewell tour titled “Celebrating Life Through Death,” marking 40 years since the band’s formation.

A Historic Final Show in Brazil

The band has chosen São Paulo as the location for its final performance, a city deeply connected to Sepultura’s rise in the global metal scene. The group first gained widespread recognition in the 1990s following a landmark performance at Praça Charles Miller, near the iconic stadium that helped cement their early reputation.

The farewell concert is expected to feature an extensive lineup of guest performers from across the metal community. Confirmed appearances include Metal Allegiance, a supergroup featuring musicians such as Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Alex Skolnick and Chuck Billy (Testament), Troy Sanders (Mastodon), Phil Demmel (formerly Machine Head), and Metal Allegiance founder Mark Menghi.

Additional performances are expected from Krisiun, Sacred Reich, and former Sepultura members Jean Dolabella and Jairo Guedz, making the event a significant reunion of artists connected to the band’s long history.

Final Tour Nearing Completion

Sepultura is currently wrapping up the United States leg of its farewell tour, with recent stops in cities including Berkeley and Los Angeles. Tickets for remaining shows have been made available through major ticketing platforms.

The farewell tour represents the final phase of a career that has taken the band across continents and generations of metal fans.

Four Decades of Metal Influence

Formed in 1984 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Sepultura was founded by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera. The band quickly became a defining force in global metal, blending elements of thrash, groove, and death metal into a distinctive sound that helped shape the genre’s evolution.

Inspired by bands such as Black Sabbath and Motörhead, Sepultura rose to prominence during the late 1980s and early 1990s thrash metal wave. Their name, derived from the Portuguese word for “grave,” was influenced by Motörhead’s track “Dancing on Your Grave.”

Over the course of their career, the band released 15 studio albums beginning with Morbid Visions in 1986. Their catalog includes some of heavy metal’s most recognized tracks, including “Roots Bloody Roots,” “Refuse/Resist,” “Territory,” “Arise,” and “Ratamahatta.”

Lineup Changes and Lasting Legacy

Throughout its history, Sepultura has undergone significant lineup changes. Founding member Max Cavalera departed in 1997, followed by drummer Igor Cavalera in 2006. The current lineup includes guitarist Andreas Kisser, bassist Paulo Jr., vocalist Derrick Green, and drummer Greyson Nekrutman.

Despite these changes, the band has maintained its global influence, touring alongside major acts such as Slayer, Testament, Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera, Ministry, and others.

Future Possibilities Remain Open

Guitarist Andreas Kisser has confirmed that the band intends to step away from active touring and recording, though he has left the door open for future possibilities.

He emphasized that the decision is about taking time away after decades of continuous activity, while also suggesting that Sepultura’s legacy will continue beyond its final performance.
