Tamil playback singer Swagatha S Krishnan has alleged serious misconduct by a music composer, claiming she experienced sexual abuse and intimidation during her time in the Tamil music industry.
The singer, known for tracks such as Yeno Pennae and Kadhal Kanmani, said the experience had a lasting impact on her mental well-being and career. She revealed that she eventually moved from Chennai to Rishikesh and distanced herself from the industry for a period.
In an interview with a YouTube channel, Swagatha stated that the alleged incident occurred inside a recording studio, which she had earlier trusted as a professional and safe workspace. She described the environment as controlled, claiming the room was soundproof and monitored by cameras.
According to her account, the incident was recorded and later used to intimidate her. She also suggested that the situation reflected a broader pattern of behavior, adding that she later heard from other women who described similar experiences.
While she did not reveal the identity of the accused, Swagatha used a strong comparison to describe the individual, which has since drawn public attention.
She further alleged that trust was built over time before being misused, and claimed that financial and emotional manipulation played a role in the situation. According to her, the individual would initially present himself as a mentor figure before creating dependency.
Swagatha also raised concerns about unauthorized recording practices in the studio environment, which she described as deeply disturbing.
Speaking about the aftermath, she said she faced emotional distress, isolation, and reputational challenges within the industry. She added that she relied on therapy and family support to cope during that phase.
Although she had earlier consulted legal professionals and officials, she chose not to file a formal complaint at the time due to fear and lack of support. She now says she is determined to pursue legal action to ensure accountability and to prevent similar incidents from affecting others in the future.
