Dhak Dhak 2 in the Works? Sanjana Sanghi Reveals Sequel Plans

Sanjana Sanghi has revealed that a sequel to the 2023 road adventure drama Dhak Dhak is in the works, saying she is “very, very excited” about the next chapter. The actor made the revelation during an exclusive interaction with IANS, although she stopped short of sharing details about the plot or the returning cast.

The announcement comes after the original Dhak Dhak, which starred Sanjana alongside Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza and Fatima Sana Shaikh, found an audience on Netflix.

Sanjana Sanghi confirms Dhak Dhak sequel

Talking about the response to the film and the possibility of returning to its world, Sanjana said the audience’s support played an important role in the sequel moving forward.

“People showered a lot of love on Netflix to our film Dhak Dhak and because of that we are coming up with a sequel, which I am very very excited about,” she told IANS.

The actor did not disclose whether all four principal characters from the first film would return or reveal the story that the sequel will explore.

For now, her comments confirm that the makers are developing another instalment of the road adventure.

What was Dhak Dhak about?

Directed and written by Tarun Dudeja, Dhak Dhak followed four women who embark on a motorcycle journey to Umling La, described in the film’s promotional material as the world’s highest motorable pass.

The journey becomes more than a road trip, with the four women confronting personal challenges and discovering new aspects of themselves along the way.

The film brought together Sanjana Sanghi, Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead roles.

Produced by Ajit Andhare, Kevin Vaz, Pranjal Khandhdiya and Taapsee Pannu under BLM Pictures, the film was released on October 13, 2023.

According to the supplied IANS report, the film was shot in around 40 days.

Sanjana Sanghi on doing fewer films

The discussion also touched on Sanjana’s relatively limited filmography since making her acting debut.

The Dil Bechara actor clarified that she is not deliberately choosing to work in fewer films and said several circumstances have affected the pace of her career.

“I am not intentionally doing fewer films. It has been four years since my debut, and I have been a part of four projects ever since,” she told IANS.

Sanjana also pointed to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the changing circumstances within the Hindi film industry.

She said young actors have had to adjust to those changes while continuing to look for opportunities.

Sanjana says social work remains important

Sanjana has also been associated with social initiatives, leading to questions about whether her work outside cinema influences the number of films she takes up.

The actor said that is not the reason for her comparatively small number of projects.

According to Sanjana, her intention is to continue working extensively whenever suitable opportunities arise. She added that social work would remain important to her even if she were to do four films in a year.

“The intention is to do work all the time and lots of it,” she said.

She also expressed hope that the film industry would regain stability and that the volume of work would eventually return to earlier levels.

Sanjana Sanghi’s journey after Dil Bechara

Sanjana made her lead debut opposite the late Sushant Singh Rajput in Dil Bechara, which was released on Disney+ Hotstar in 2020.

She subsequently appeared in Rashtra Kavach Om and Dhak Dhak, among other projects, while also remaining involved in social initiatives.

With the possibility of Dhak Dhak 2 now emerging, the actor could return to one of the projects that gave her an opportunity to explore a character-driven story built around travel, friendship and self-discovery.
