Mirzapur actress Harshita Gaur has opened up about the pressure actors face to always look polished on camera and why she is comfortable changing her appearance when a role demands it.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Harshita said actors ultimately have a choice in how they respond to the expectations surrounding their appearance. According to her, performers can either allow that pressure to dictate how they present themselves or remain comfortable with their natural appearance.
Harshita Gaur Says She Is Comfortable Experimenting With Her Looks
When asked how much appearance matters to her and whether she would be willing to make significant changes for a character, Harshita said she is open to experimentation.
“I am open to experimenting, especially if the character requires it. It’s fun. That’s why we are in this field, because we get the opportunity to experiment. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be here,” she told IANS.

Whether that means appearing without makeup or adopting a look that is different from her usual public image, Harshita believes an actor should be willing to adapt when the script calls for it.
‘There Is Pressure, But You Can Choose Not to Take It’
Harshita also acknowledged that the entertainment industry comes with considerable pressure to remain camera-ready.
“There is pressure, but you can either take that pressure or choose not to. I think it is completely up to you,” she said.
The actress suggested that an individual’s approach to appearance can make a difference in how they experience these expectations. Rather than allowing the pressure to become overwhelming, she believes performers can decide how much importance they want to give it.

At the same time, she feels audiences have become more accepting of different appearances and body and skin types when they are appropriate for the character being portrayed.
Harshita pointed out that several shows and films now feature established actors without makeup when the role requires a more natural appearance.

Giving an example, Harshita mentioned Kareena Kapoor and recalled a film in which the actor appeared without makeup.
“Kareena Kapoor did a film where she didn’t wear makeup. I think people have become much more comfortable showing themselves as they are when the character demands it,” Harshita said.
Her comments underline a broader shift in how screen appearances can be approached, particularly when an actor’s natural look serves the story or adds authenticity to a character.
