Vedika Pinto on ‘Musafir Cafe’ Success, Career Choices and Clickbait Rumours

Vedika Pinto may have found wider recognition with her performance as Sudha in Musafir Cafe, but the actor says her success was anything but overnight. For Pinto, the recognition that arrived with the series represents the result of nearly a decade of work, auditions and roles that gradually shaped her career.

‘Overnight Success? No. It Took 10 Years’

The success of Musafir Cafe has significantly increased Pinto’s profile, but the actor is quick to challenge the idea that she suddenly became successful.

“Overnight success? No. It took 10 years,” Pinto said.

She acknowledged that recognition can sometimes arrive suddenly, even when the journey behind it has been lengthy.

“One was done overnight — everything, like in terms of recognition. But it didn’t happen overnight. It took 10 years,” she explained.

For Pinto, each project has contributed to the next stage of her career.

“Every one thing will lead to another,” she added.

The 30-year-old actor has previously appeared in Ritviz’s music video Liggi and films including Operation Romeo (2022) and Gumraah (2023).

Vedika Pinto Wants to Move Away From Sudha

Following the response to Musafir Cafe, Pinto says she now feels more confident about experimenting with roles that are dramatically different from Sudha.

She admits that there was initially a temptation to continue working within the genre that had delivered her breakthrough recognition. However, the success of the series has given her a greater sense of creative freedom.

“I also feel like I have the liberty to pick a choice that challenges me as an actor. So right now, what’s exciting to me is to do something that is quite polarising to Sudha,” she said.

Pinto wants to use that confidence to test her range rather than immediately settle into a familiar screen persona.

“If I have that safety net, then let’s have some fun also. I really just want to push myself. I have to see what is possible. And maybe some things will work, maybe some things won’t,” she said.

‘I Want to Break’ Stereotypes

For Pinto, avoiding typecasting is an important part of building a sustainable acting career.

She pointed out that performers can quickly become associated with a particular kind of character when one role becomes especially successful.

“Stars are very, very commonly stereotyped. After one character works really well, they will be like, ‘Oh, he can only do this.’ But I want to break that,” she said.

Her ambition is not simply to collect commercially successful projects but to establish herself as an actor capable of handling contrasting characters.

Commercial Success Is Not Everything

Pinto also acknowledged the complicated relationship between audience response and an actor’s personal assessment of their work.

She said there have been characters she is extremely proud of despite those performances not receiving the same level of public response.

“I have had a series of characters that I have played that I am very proud of, but unfortunately, they have not resonated with the people. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that I am proud of them,” Pinto said.

While she wants to grow her audience and be appreciated for her work, she also wants to continue developing her craft.

“While I definitely want to grow and build, and be liked and loved by people and all of that, I also do want to hone my craft. I want to be known as a good actor,” she added.

‘Nishaanchi’ Remains a Special Film for Pinto

One of the projects Pinto considers particularly meaningful is Anurag Kashyap’s 2025 film Nishaanchi, in which she played Rinku.

Despite the film not connecting with audiences commercially, Pinto remains proud of being part of it.

“That’s a movie I am so proud of. I am so proud to be a part of that film. Rinku is such a special character to me. But unfortunately, it didn’t work, and people just didn’t resonate. But it’s okay, because you know what, that’s just the game,” she said.

At the same time, Pinto believes the film ultimately contributed to her professional growth.

According to the actor, the appreciation she received for her performance helped audiences begin recognising her as an actor. She also credits that visibility with eventually helping her secure the audition for Musafir Cafe.

“People started recognising me as an actor because of that film,” she said.

The experience appears to have reinforced her belief that a project’s immediate commercial performance does not necessarily determine its long-term impact on an actor’s career.

Greater visibility has also brought increased attention to Pinto’s personal life.

Recent reports linked the actor with Zeyn Shaw, prompting speculation about their relationship. Pinto, however, says she has learned not to allow such reports to dictate her emotions.

“Why do we want to make those clickbaity headlines?” she asked.
