Apoorva Mukhija confirms move to New York, opens up about why she wanted to leave India

Content creator Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as The Rebel Kid, has confirmed that she has moved to New York. The influencer recently spoke about her long-standing fascination with the city and explained why living abroad had become an important personal goal.

Apoorva Mukhija has officially started a new chapter in New York. The digital creator confirmed her relocation through an Instagram Story after followers noticed her earlier comments about moving abroad.

The move comes after Apoorva had previously spoken about wanting to leave Mumbai and eventually explore opportunities outside India. In a recent appearance on the podcast Untriggered By AminJaz, she explained that her decision was influenced largely by her first experience of visiting New York.

Why did Apoorva Mukhija move to New York?

For Apoorva, the attraction to New York appears to have been more than a passing fascination. Recalling her first visit to the city, she said she immediately felt that she could imagine herself living there.

“I have travelled quite a lot and when I landed in New York I was like – ‘I really want to live here’,” she said.

She went on to describe the things that appealed to her about the city, including its pace, fashion, food and architecture. Apoorva also said that seeing New York repeatedly featured in web series she enjoyed had contributed to her connection with the city.

“There was something about this city. It was so fast, everyone is so well dressed, the food is great. I love the architecture and I have seen New York in almost every single web series that I love,” she explained.

Her comments suggest that the move is part of a broader personal and professional transition rather than a sudden decision.

Apoorva applied to just one college

Interestingly, Apoorva revealed that her interest in New York even influenced the way she approached higher education.

She said she applied to only one college, and it was located in New York.

“I was like, ‘If I get in, I get in and I’ll go’,” she recalled.

Her plans to study abroad were not entirely new. In 2025, Apoorva had discussed the possibility of leaving Mumbai and eventually India to pursue higher studies. At the time, she said she was considering a master’s degree in either fashion or management and had also taken competitive examinations as part of that plan.

From social media creator to mainstream entertainment

Apoorva Mukhija built her initial following through social media, where she became widely recognised by the nickname The Rebel Kid. Her candid digital content and distinctive online personality helped her develop a substantial audience before she began expanding into mainstream entertainment.

She has since appeared in projects including Who’s Your Gynac? and Nadaaniyan, while also taking part in reality television. More recently, she was seen in Lock Upp 2.

Her growing presence across digital content, acting and reality television has given her a career that extends beyond traditional influencer work.

Apoorva’s career has also faced controversy

Apoorva’s public profile has not been without controversy. Her appearance on India’s Got Latent was followed by intense online criticism and public attention. She subsequently took a break from social media before eventually returning to her platforms.

Her decision to relocate to New York now marks another significant development in her career.
